Mertz doesn't have the ceiling of AR, but he doesn't have the floor of AR either. He's not as inaccurate as AR, but his inaccuracy does limit what UF can be at times. He kind of reminds me of Hurts at Bama in his first two seasons without the wheels. Jalen would complete passes, but often limit what those plays could be by under throwing it, throwing it behind his receivers so they'd have to adjust and get fewer yards on what could've been much more explosive plays.

You're just making up insults. Hurts looked nothing like this dude. He was such a prolific runner there was no one you could rightly compare them to start with. You are just pulling that out of your backside. Jalen Hurts won the SEC POY as a true freshman. He was far more dynamic than this guy will ever see.

really? Utah had 8 starters out.

Well, we'll see.

I'll guarantee you had we opened with Mizzou last year and won the way we did, you all would've said losing the five defensive first rounders killed us and we were gonna be a one hit wonder and may lose the East.

And Florida returned 1 starter from 2022 on defense, with just 3 returning starters on offense.
ok, where are all those players? The 8 that were out for Utah are still on the team. Apple to oranges!

I said "without the wheels". You may not be familiar with the English language or that idiom, but it's talking about Hurts running ability.

His ball placement was brought up in many games by analysts clearly showing it was lacking at times.

Napier seems like a decent enough dude but he also seems to be a perfect representation of the Peter principle.

Whatever he's good at that worked so well at Louisiana isn't working now.

The two players with the same number? Multiple all game long false starts and playing even a second of man coverage with a non passer who runs a 4.3 at QB for the opposition?

Those are coaching , not roster, problems. Florida has more talent than Utah anyway and several of Utah's best guys were out.

He's just in over his head and he's not a new head coach. He just isn't good enough at this level and probably will never be.

No such thing now. With NIL and free agency you can turn it around in 2 no matter who bad you were.

I saw a lot of coaching mistakes from UF last night.

Mertz is a decent QB but he's not a game changing type QB. He can be very effective within a system. He doesn't make many mistakes.

The interior of UF's line on both sides is huge. Big but not athletic. Smaller, quicker and strong DL and OL will give them fits all season long.

So was his arm strength. He couldn't stretch the field and make the deep pass if his life depended on it. Jalen Hurts always had a rocket for an arm and he could make the defense cover the entire field.

If Napier's offense can't run, he's in big trouble. That's his bread and butter.

O-line is hot garbage.

Defense not terrible... gave up the long play and a TD on a short field. DL looked decent.

Utah may be pretty good also. Would not give up, Gator fans.

A healthy Utah will be good this year and could repeat as PAC-12 champs. But last night's version of Utah was not that Utah.

i agree with you. but time shows true colors. last year you had the best athlete in the field in AR. this team looks worse than last year. it is only one game, but i look to the type of mistakes being made. florida looked bad yesterday. actual regression from last year.

an LSU fan feels your pain. Pelini as DC was an absolute sh!t show. O was a dummy. Curley...not good. Gerry..eh.

Napier is the right guy for Florida. Don't ever fire him.

Exactly. Stick with Napier.

Forever.

And ever.

And ever.

I'm not sure.

I did not think Mertz looked very good. The OL struggled for most of the game. I also thought the Florida defense looked fat and slow up front and also slow at the LB position. Not a very good recipe to win many games.

But as anyone who saw him can attest, not the best football player.

I can appreciate this but who do you go get? There are some promising young coaches but who?

You could throw a bunch of money at:

Dan Lanning?
Kalen DeBoer?
Dave Aranda?
PJ Fleck?

I’d rather have a hyper organized Type A head coach and a staff of elite recruiters who may be avg position coaches.

Why are we dismissing that Utah might be really good. Remember, their starting QB was out.

Florida money will do what they always do, that’s not give anyone more than 4 years.

Napier is a serious man. He knows the x and o’s. He’s been around the best and knows how to be a CEO.

It’s not Napier’s fault two players on field same time. Let’s say special teams staff not paying attention

Procedure penalties? Was that Saban fault last year? No, it’s the players fault. Not Napiers fault as well. Now, if he doesn’t have a come to Jesus moment with his staff, then next time on him

Big question, can Napier get Florida back to winning 9-10 games per year and being competitive? I say yes.
