When it is obvious a penalty or a forced timeout is used, and if you don’t have any timeouts, then it’s an automatic penalty for delay of game. They seriously need to take a look at this after the season and reviewing this isn’t going to slow down the game anymore than a fake injury does. While team is dealing with said player, the booth can review and instruct the field officials rather to throw flag or assess timeout to the team.

We have seen teams do this for years against teams that run fast. Ole Miss did it to Tennessee in Heupel first year and that allowed that game to be over 5 hours.

If you leave the game with an injury, you should have to sit out the rest of the quarter. It’s easily fixed.

If the offense can exploit the substitution rules, so can the defense.

Cry more.

They gave OU 4 timeouts in the second half.

1. to avoid 10 second runoff...they never took it off the clock as a charged time-out
2. stop the clock
3. stop the clock
4 they caled it...where did that come from?

Ole Miss did it when they came to Knoxville. They turned the game into over 5 hours, I witnessed in person and they where dropping like flys only to be back on the field 2 plays later.

This sounds good until your QB takes a shot and has to sit the next 2+ possessions.

Tennessee doesn’t mind. They slowed down the game last night and ran 52 times and still won the game and controlled it all night.

OU was prepared. They also had tall and moist/slippery grass to slow down high powered offense.

As long as there’s no rule for it, no issue with it.

I think it's completely reasonable to say that if you go out due to injury that you have to sit out the remainder of the possession - I think that's enough to disincentivize without penalizing legitimate injury concerns.

But it backfired against them and costed them one of there best players for the rest of the year with a dislocated ankle that requires surgery.

You’d be all for it till it screws your team over. Let’s say your Star DE gets chop blocked and stays down but without real injury. Now he’s penalized for a dirty play by the O. Or your QB gets rocked after dropping a dime to pick up a third and long. No injury, but got the wind knocked out of him. Instead of taking a play off to compose himself, he has to watch the rest of the possession from the sideline.
To be clear, I’m not defending faking injuries, but the “solutions” offered suck.

Maybe a rule change, where if you go off the field due to injury, you cannot return that series.

Alabama does this all the time vs UT.

They'll do it again in Neyland this year.

No way should an “injured” player be allowed to return on the next try. No way.
