I used to get in tons of arguments over Facebook with Jael Phelps, one of Fred's granddaughters. Truly delusional people.

I meant Dad. He had children. He was a husband. He was their DAD and no one should have the free speech right to interfere with a family's funeral.

dont give a shite if they sue me for the nothing i'm worth right now or not. If they picketed a friends funeral I think I would pull up and park on top of them on my way to the funeral. These guys are jackasses and deserve it.

I agree they have their right to protest, and I fully support freedom of speech as well. But our students also have the freedom to make a wall around them and drown them out, which I really support in this case.

Agree 100%, Shane. I knew what this thread was about as soon as I saw the title. Those despicable inbred freaks are so far from what a church should be it's pitiful. They are about self-promotion; they deliberately act as offensive and provocative as possible, hoping to make someone angry enough to attack them so they can sue.

They protested the memorial service of two teenage girls and their mother, who were murdered by their dad after a bitter divorce. It was right down the street at a high school here in Columbia. After that, and more protests at soldiers' funerals, a motorcycle group now shows up at most of their planned protests around here to head them off and make sure the family is allowed to mourn their loved one in peace.

Aggies, I salute you. These people plan their horrible protests at the funerals of the very people who fight and die to protect their right to do so. They'll get what's coming to them one day.

IIRC, there's been cities enact ordinances against protesting funerals and the procession routes.

This is the best way to combat those worthless fricks. Enact very strict and extreme laws to stop them dead in their tracks from the get go.

Something like requiring a permit to be filed 30 days in advance of a protest or whatever their activities are. Funerals are usually done w/in 10 days of a death, so something like that would prevent them from using those tactics.

That's a good point .Some of the problems come from the fact that they protest on public property, which is harder to restrict.

From what I understand, the only members of this "church" are the relatives of its pastor. The "church" is a business to them, nothing more.

I agree. They basically try to bait people into lawsuits. What they do is legal, and I agree with CV that ordinances are the best way to combat it, but hopefully where they don't exist people will keep them far away from funerals and such by doing things like this.

I'm gonna say this and then jump off.

That fine gentleman made a choice. He chose to put on the uniform and stand for something. It was selfless, honorable, and something that we should all be thankful for. His death is heartwrenching, and my thoughts go out to his loved ones.

He also put on that uniform so that people could be assholes. Not little assholes, but huuuuuggggeee fricking ball licking assholes. People like the Westboro Baptist Church. People can be huge fricking ball licking assholes here because of people like the man being mourned. That isn't the case everywhere in this world. That is also why we are better than everywhere else in this world. You can be a huge fricking ball licking a-hole because of men like him.

I hope his loved ones find peace and I am very thankful for his service. I also hope that people can continue to be huge fricking ball licking assholes like the WBC. Why, you might ask? Because in some places, they stone you for drawing a picture of diety. Not here. Thankfully, not here. Why not here? Because of men like him.

What a crock. Men in combat fight for their buddies on their left and right, to do an honorable job and return to their families. Not a single soldier or Marine is thinking about WBC when they're driving down IED alley or kicking down doors 10 time zones from home.
