In Midland Texas? Or San Antonio? Sure.
But a Nacogdoches or a Jasper is as deep south as ANYWHERE in Louisiana.

Yes - the biggest issue with this list is Baton Rogue in the Top 5 and Fayetteville at #12. That just tells me those guys haven't really been to Fville or when they went they just went to a game then back to their hotels.

A city with a 17% Hispanic population is not "deep south," plain and simple, bud.
Again, get over it.
Again, get over it.

Southern Louisiana and Arky are pretty distinct, so it depends on what you mean by deep south.
When I say that, I mean rural central and southern GA, northern FL, Alabama, central and northern Mississippi and upcountry/midlands SC.

If your metro area/county/region has a black population under 20% you are not the Deep South.
This disqualifies 95% of Texas, Arkansas, Eastern Tennessee, Western North Carolina, Northwestern South Carolina, Northeast & Northwest Georgia, Northeast Alabama, etc.
The last 6 areas I named are Appalachian and that is not the Deep South. At all. Just isn't.

ITT, a bunch of white people are giving their definitions on what the "Deep South" "is" and "isn't."

Yep - exactly.
From the mouth Delta up the Mississippi to about Union City, TN over to the about the Cumberland Ridge and down to Birmingham then over to Atlanta and stretching to about Charlotte is about what I would consider the Deep South.

I would never let anyone I loved move to BR. Too much crime, or at least there used to be.

To be fair to us, at least we live here. Unlike when people from Northern locales with 2% black residents tell us about how we shouldn't reject diversity and need to stop our bigotry.

Hey our white people families built the Deep South.
Wait, is that good or bad? Let's not answer.

Many threads are decent until you arrive, phannie. Please see yourself out and allow rational posters to discuss things that interest them.
Thanks

Jasper is 44% black and Nacogdoches is 25% black. And if you take the ENTIRE College Station metro area as a whole, it is well beyond 17% black as well. Very deep southy.
Jesus Texas is the size of many of your little states. We can have the deep south, the plains, the west and a chunk of Mexico all in the same border.

Nothing better than a New Hampshireite who has seen 2 black people in the last 6 months wags his finger at someone in Selma.
