This is terrible not just for auburn, but for the entire sec or ncaa for that matter.
If this turns out to be true, the rabbit hole can be very deep and very long. I am sure most intelligent posters here understand what i mean. And if basketball gets involved it could get even messier.
If a full blown investigation gets underway, the majority of the sec could be linked with benefits for players and corruption. I know i sound paranoid, but everyone has a different idea of what the agenda is behind this. Nobody knows, it might be more then just about auburn.
I know one thing, someone does not come out and say something like that to the MEDIA because they have a guilty conscience, it's for a reason. Weather they hate newton, auburn, the whole SEC, whatever.
It's not a good thing. And the pressure is mounting. I am sure every school has skeletons in the closet regarding other programs.
i guess i am just concerned

The SEC doesn't garner any respect from outside fans anyway, so it really doesn't matter at the end of the day.

I agree with everything you just said.

Not worried about it, we don't pay players.
Rivals has our backs in saying we are not paying recruits.

Correct. They will continue to hate us all regardless.

quote:no. but it garners anger i would imagine. We are the premire conference with no signs of slowing down.

Meanwhile next year you get the pac 12 and the big ten, twelve or whatever.

that is basically what happened when smu got the death penalty.

This is bad for TN, MSU, OU, AU, and FL
They are all getting hammered back to the stone age..... Ok not really, but all will probably be asked questions at least.
cleanest history on that list is TN. The rest well....

No, not saying the conference would still be around, but the collapse began when we left.

I'm not naive enough to think this is an isolated incident, but honestly, how many JUCO kids can show up and be a one man wrecking crew for their new team? Newton is probably the best JUCO player of all-time. I'm surprised he didn't get more than $180,000.

Doesn't concern me at all. If Auburn is guilty, then it's Auburn and they will be punished, not the SEC.

I agree its not just bad for Auburn but the SEC. In addition, IMO the national media is sick of the SEC consistently winning the MNC. They would love the SEC not to be represented in the MNC this year.

I don't see why a big 12 fan would be worried in the first place.

that the FBI has requested a sit-down meeting with his client -- and tells us the agent who contacted him said, "We are interested in whether young men are being shopped to colleges."
That's the part that worries me.
The rabbit hole can indeed be deep. The FBI net can drag several other schools into investigation. And not just schools from the SEC.
I just hope LSU keeps it clean.

I was listening to the radio today, I can't remember which show, but I recall someone saying something similar. It had to do with a down program, and the person said "what bad can happen? We haven't been to a bowl in Gawd knows how long, we haven't had a winning record in Gawd knows how long, so if we got caught paying for a player that will get us to a bowl what's the worst that can happen? What, we get banned from a bowl for the next 3 years?"
It's not an exact quote, but you get the point.

What schools were after Newton during his JUCO recruitment.
And is that the "hole" that is being discussed or something bigger.
I cant see how it could be bigger than Cams recruitment.
