frick, as homer as I can be sometimes, LSU has no reason in the top 5 as far as LBs go.
No flame, but why the drop off at LB? LSU has always been strong at this position. Do you have a young group coming up behind the current starters?

By the end of the year, UF will have the best front 7 IMO. We need it because our CB's might struggle.

Not to mention we typically don't have the best of luck with elite OOS LB recruits. I really don't understand why either.

Yeah, Florida's front 7 is going to be legit.

I bet the DB's are going to be severely undervalued by most pundits though.

Even though Brown, Riggs, Evans, and Elam were on the field in every single game last year.

Jeremy Brown will be just fine on one side. Honestly, the situation back there isn't as bad as most think it is.

3. Arkansas: This area of the team improved a lot during the season and this spring. It’s headlined by Jerry Franklin, who has led the Razorbacks in tackles the last three seasons. He has 271, including 21.5 for loss in his career. Strongside hybrid Jerico Nelson was second on the team in tackles and has the speed to get all over the field. Nelson will occasional drop back and play safety as well. This linebacker tandem will be one of the best out there this fall. The major plus for the Razorbacks is that there is finally some really good depth at the position. Bret Harris, Jarrett Lake and Terrell Williams came on strong on the outside this spring, while Ross Rasner was making strides until he was arrested and suspended indefinitely this spring.

Arkansas does not play defense, nor do they have any good defensive players.

While I think AU's LBs will be more talented than last yr's bunch, I will point out that this yr's bunch will not have anyone the caliber of Nick Fairley creating as much havoc on the front line. A great d-lineman will make an average LB good & good LB great.

When Bama was recruiting Cody McClain was a soph to be. Smart pointed to Cody & told McClain, "that guy will help make you a first rounder." He was right. AU doesn't have a d-lineman who can turn their good LBs into great LBs this yr.

It was our D that kept us in the game most of last season, sans Kentucky.

We will be fine, and to those who don't think so....Dee Finley want you to Kill Yourself

Phil Steele actually has Jerry Franklin as like the #5 MLB in the country. That really suprised me.

I know, I know, Phil has lost his marbles this year so I shouldn't care.

Indeed it could, but if our D line and LB's are "as advertised" we will look like we have better than the 8th rated secondary.

If anyone's earned a little preseason pub, it's a guy who has started for a billion years.

I think Jerry will rack up a lot of tackles again this year, but I don't really think he's a terror at LB. He hasn't shown much ability over the years to step up into a hole and punish someone. He's much better in space, IMO.

Yeah I wish we had a true MLB all these years so Jerry could have been out on the edge. I think he would have been even better out there in space like you said.

Regardless of the irrelevancy of these rankings, I foresee some serious crow being eaten regarding the Arky defense.

I think the reason the Dont'a is still playing LB is because he is the leader of the defense after Rolando McClain left. You don't usually have a DE that is the leader, and he can analyze the offense and make calls much easier from the LB position
