tabloid journalism. Nothing is too salacious ro too inflamatory. To hell with the truth or a second side to a story. Get the gory details out there loud and in public. They will worry about defending or apologizing after the fact.
It really is terrible.

Can you be a little more specific here?

Journalism in general has turned into tabloid journalism.
My parents watch whatever network news show has Robin Roberts on early in the morning. They cover mostly salacious bs and show animal videos.
There aren't too many outlets left in the journalism world that aren't playing to the lowest common denominator.

Let me fix the title of this thread for you:
'ESPN Reporting Is Similar To'
Popcorn. It smells good, tastes good, but literally has no substance to it, and is just expensive junk food

welcome to "journalism" in the 21st century. even the major networks are tabloidish. gossip sells, facts are boring.

Most outlets are handling the internet influence poorly. They should give up trying to "break" stories and focus on in-depth coverage and investigative journalism. They'll never beat twitter for speed, and they run a lot of false info trying.

So you're saying that maybe just maybe the money wasn't to much? Join the club. Most Auburn fans have been saying this for 9 months.

It's funny how LSU fans are now criticizing ESPN for their stories.. If I recall last year all you could read on here is Joe Schad this and ESPN that.. Auburn is going down..
Sorry LSU fans enjoy the limelight.. Cause its gonna be the main story leading up to the game in Dallas.

ESPN news is the sports equivalent of MSNBC.

Agreed, I even heard one on a radio show say this is where reporting is moving to and failed to answer how this can be a problem (I think it was Thamel). That is why most websites with the names ESPN, Fox, CBS, etc have a position like that of Thayer. Call them a blogger and they have looser values of what can be reported, but GrandDad is correct it is spilling over to what was once considered real journalism shows. Why? Because they don't want to be scooped by a blogger, or a MB.
By the way they have very rarely apologized for getting it wrong. They just skate over it and go to the next bad story.

You keep telling yourself that to feel better about AU situation, but what is really going to happen? The Hicks situation was an almost two year old incident that we self reported. It just happened to come during all the Lyles stuff so it looked bad.
The lyles situation us what it is. We bought film of a QB we wanted and got it as a package so they could charge more. If you think 6k dollars steered a recruit anywhere, you are delusional. And the RS situation was simply a kid moving in with his girlfriend of 4 years. Just a fine job by out compliance dept. making sure everything was OK. Do you even read the facts before you post or do you just skim the headlines and blurt out your misguided opinions like ESPN reporters?

You're just getting around to noticing this, eh?

ESPN is not journalism. It is entertainment. They will do anything to try to get people to watch their network. I mean anything. Miles to Michigan is a perfect example.
