ESPN should be able to run whatever they want. And when they do or don't I won't really care. Not everyone who loves SEC football, lives in the south and might even lean to the right politically gives a toss about religion.

The problem is the diatribe the OP made, and his Whiskey Bent level of overthinking. Just no religious stuff at all. We need to train people to just turn off their Jesus brains when they log in.

Also, most of the deep south is probably anti-Catholic(I know quite a few who are VERY anti-Catholic), so I find this aspect of it comical.

Count me in that number

Third worst ... and even then it's debatable.

Catholics vote liberal progressive ... so yeah, I can see why you'd type something like that though.

But ESPN is in the northeast where it is predominantly Catholic and predominantly liberal progressive ... yet they insulted the hell out of Notre Dame and Touchdown Jesus with that bimbo got up drunk roasting Mike and Mike ... what was her name? Dana Jacobson maybe? Yeah, hold on ... here you go. She was chugging vodka at the podium and f-bombing Jesus and Notre Dame. She was booed off the stage by the Southerners in the crowd ... along with the Domers and BCers of course.

In Biblical Christianity, the god-man Jesus motivated by love died as a criminal by crucifixion as a propitiation for man's sins to a perfectly holy God. This is the very cornerstone of Christianity. It is anathema to Islam.

I realize that some consider this foreign to this board. However, it was the sports network that spawned the religious discussion.

In Qur'anical Islam... Jesus appears in 93 verses. His birth is still virginal, his message still one of peace and he still performed miracles. He is not crucified, but called to heaven by god. He was still the messiah, but a prophet who lead the way for Muhammad. They also believe that Jesus will return on Judgement Day to smite the Anti-Christ.

It's all BS... Islam diminishes the importance of Jesus in favor of their anointed holy mouthpiece of Allah in the same way that Judaic prophets and teachings are shoved to the rear when Jesus comes a preaching about God. In the end all three are praying to the same bearded guy and then throwing stones at their fellow worshipers. It's this kind of nonsense that makes me shake my head.

The very idea of rabid "Christians" being persecuted is hilarious. I understand why you want to believe it - you want to be "persecuted for His name's sake". But this isn't grounded in reality. There is no similarity at all between being stoned for believing in Jesus and being dismissed by people who have no patience for your desire to equate Jesus with intolerant social viewpoints.

FTR, Jesus did not diminish the Old Testament prophets. I'll be glad to continue the discussion (unless the Admin goes all ESPN on me) but I have no idea who the three or the bearded guy are that you're referring to.

As for the OP, when something comes to the ESPN desk with Jesus' name on it, why are the compelled to cover it up?

You are correct. In reality, Jesus validated the Old Testament prophets. His death and resurrection just invalidated Old Testament law.

I don't agree with the new left these days, but ESPN should be able to run whatever they want too. That's real freedom if you want the truth, but we sorta live under the illusion of real freedom. I dislike the two party system, but when it comes to trying to tell others how to live their lifes. The left takes top prize these days. Each party has their nut jobs, but it's reached the top of the food chain within the left. Both parties usually lose control the longer they're in power though. Many Humans just can't handle the power the USA goverment welds.

ETA: ESPN now represents the SEC in some regard ... and they need to remember who we are as a whole. If they are going to rep us, their policies need to take into consideration our outlooks and views moreso than the northeast's on all matters where OUR network is concerned IMHO.

The SEC is not a religious organization. It is an athletic organization composed almost entirely of public universities (Vanderbilt is the exception). The SEC has absolutely zero business influencing ESPN on any sort of religious matter.

That's the SEC as an organization.

If SEC fans want to call ESPN, then whatever. That's individuals acting as individuals and they have every right to protest/boycott if they want.

edit: personally I don't have a problem with the ad. I'm not religious, but the ad says "here at (wherever) we celebrate the birth of Jesus" so they are clearly talking about themselves and their organization's perspective. They aren't really pushing religion in the commercial and there is nothing that would imply ESPN agrees with their message.

This country was not founded on christian principles. The founding fathers were mostly agnostic. This country was founded on the principle that people could worship (or not) as they wish. The whole "in god we trust" was added to currency in 1957 not 1777.
