But, I find even the early years with The Rose Bowl appearances interesting and then the fall and then the rise again with Coach Bryant

You may enjoy this site

There are alot of good links on the right side also. I frequent there alot and many of the links will take you where you can find and research alot of historical information on the University.

I enjoy that site for finding out little known things like this:

quote:

After leading Alabama to a victory over Stanford in the 1935 Rose Bowl, halfback Dixie Howell took a job as the head coach of the football team of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México in Mexico City. The former All-American brought his Crimson Tide teammate Charles Marr with him to Mexico as an assistant.

American oil magnate Harry Ford Sinclair sponsored the squad, footing Howell and Marr's salaries as well as purchasing the team's equipment.

quote:

Howell did not return to Mexico City the next season but took a job as an assistant coach at Tulane. He would later go on to become head coach at Arizona State University and the University of Idaho. In 1946 he served as backs coach at Alabama.

Marr took over the head coaching duties at the University of Mexico for 1936 and 1937 claiming the Mexican championship in each season.

Dixie Howell, Los Angeles Mexican consul Ricardo Hill and Ernesto Navas, the captain of the 1935 University of Mexico team.

Not only did Bama folks rule American football, but they ruled in 2 countries.

You're a good dude, joeyb, but you can't honestly think that Chizik is in the same category of coach as Miles or Saban. He may eventually be, but he isn't close to it right now.

Mr defense isnt even close to Les and Nick and the glitter with old chiz will be gone after this year.

Thank you for the clarification it looks I may have misunderstood the post I responded to.

Sure thing -- it's confusing, because they've kept a good deal of the same marketing, but I think the quality is different. That's why I always feel the need to differentiate. Instead of documentary filmmakers making these movies, it's ESPN's internal folks, usually farming the work out to production companies.

So you've got lots of people in the chain now. ESPN VPs, producers, editors, production people all in different places. The quality of reporting and journalism isn't going to be the same as having one guy with his hands in all of it.

Good news is LSU is keeping pace with Bama in every aspect as a program so the battles Nick and Les are forging right now will be looked at as legendary stuff 50 years from now. It's a good time to be an LSU or Bama fan these days.

30 for 30 never reports on good things. I wouldn't be proud of this. Probably about all of y'alls past discretions.
