Asked about the report in his annual Final Four press conference, Emmert said the allegations have to meet a larger burden of proof at the NCAA.
"First of all, I think it's very important to recognize in that case at Auburn, what there is is a newspaper story. That's it," Emmert said. "We haven't done anything with that case because we don't know anything about it."
Asked specifically if he was concerned that a "newspaper reporter" -- Roberts' article was on the website Roopstigo.com -- knew more than his enforcement staff, Emmert responded strongly.
"So you obviously believe that those allegations are true and you have evidence that they're true and you're saying, Okay, here's the facts, so why don't you throw the book at Auburn?" Emmert said. "We have a higher responsibility when we're saying somebody's committed some offense than reading a newspaper story. I mean, obviously when anything like that comes out, we conduct an investigation and look into it."
Emmert indicated that at this point, the NCAA had very little information on the allegations in Roberts' report, saying those allegations came from one player -- Mike McNeil -- who hadn't contacted the NCAA.
"First of all, let me be clear about what I said. We don't know anything about that situation, not about anything that's going on at Auburn University," Emmert said. "I've read the first report, the first news story. As I understand it, a former student-athlete made some comments to a reporter. You guys probably know the story better than me. Is that about accurate?"
Emmert, who has been under fire for the NCAA's problems investigating Miami, went further with his answer in a sometimes contentious press conference.
"That person didn't call us. He called a reporter," Emmert said. "Okay. I don't know how you would expect us to have known more about that case than whatever this young man said to a reporter. That's, again, hardly shocking."
Emmert Mad

Why is the state of Alabama just full of sleazy people?
Yall pay off college kids to win damn games, teabag people who are passed out, and killing trees and ruining historic sites.
Maybe the state of Alabama needs a timeout.

Why would that be funny he was still a player on the 2010 team which would made him ineligible from the time he received the money forward.
the muschamp/mcneil supposed money exchange happened 6 years ago... outside NCAA's statute of limitations.

Is this like cheating, then getting caught, then blaming it on everyone else to this day?

You mean Emmert isn't persuaded beyond a shadow of a doubt by a shitton of hearsay printed on a blog?

I don't recall the TTMW story getting picked up by ESPN, but if they did, that would only confirm my argument with TT - which is that Auburn doesn't really "get it" worse from the media. Jesus, read the whole thread before you wade into an argument.
I know your argument, I was simply saying your logic flawed. you said the ttown mensware didnt get picked up because it was a no name blogger that lacked credibility, yet this one did because she has credibility, despite the fact that the no name blogger story did get picked up despite his lack of credibility. therefore the story does not have to be from a credible source or not to be picked up

The TTMW article got picked up by ESPN because the University of Alabama released a statement saying that they had disassociated with the booster, not because SbB reported on it. Therefore, I think you're wrong.

only conjecture. Muschamp is totally denying the part about him handing over $400.

No, I expect a journalist to research a story and develop sources. To investigate and try to substantiate in some way the claims being made. If unable to do so, then to not report accusations that have no supportable basis.
Don't know if he did it or not, don't even give a shite. Virtually all money exchanges ($100 handshakes) are one on one...so it's always one's word against another. A single such event would not warrant mentioning in a story, while it is worthy when looking for a pattern of behavior-which is what her article was about.
Also, the splash of mentioning an SEC head coach, should attract more hits to her site.

Have we gotten to the bottom of this and exposed Auburn for the dirty cheaters that we all know them to be?
