But I think Clemson has proven they are worth being counted as Elite. They've won 3 National Titles since 1981 and played for one more.
I dont disagree with that at all

I am not disagreeing with your elite list

But your "elite matchup count" doesnt make sense, or isnt really useful

Ohio State vs Minnessota was an elite matchup in the 50s

ND vs army was an elite matchup in the 40s

Yet, they arent getting credit for that, while someone playing a bad miami program from the 50s or a putrid FSU from back then gets an elite matchup

The NCAA says that Ole Miss has a title. Sorry if this offends.

Yep, the FWAA (and NFF) were just as legit as the AP and Coaches back then. It's good enough for a blue blood like Ohio State so it's good enough for Ole Miss (and Arkansas). Trophies were awarded.
Not only that but the FWAA always waited until after the bowl games.

Kerry would've been of the GOATs if not for his motorcycle accident.

Maybe that was just a cover for missing bookings while touring with PF ?

Why have Tennessee and LSU played so few games against the nation's better programs? I mean that gap is pretty gigantic.

Well, the numbers are the numbers. But I have to think a lot of these games were SEC vs SEC --not some inordinate amount of incredible OOC games. Until 1972 there was virtually no uniformity in SEC scheduling, in fact for a period in the 1960's some SEC teams had "appointed conference games" vs an OOC team or two.

LSU rarely played Auburn,Georgia and Tennessee until the 1970's. But like another poster mentioned Ole Miss in the Vaught years from the late 40's until his first retirement in 1970 was a very, very good program.

Kinda same thing with Tennessee. Even with the campus' proximity Tennessee and Georgia didn't play from 1937 to 1968. UT also rarely played Florida until the 1970's.

Trying to spin some type of scenario where Georgia is a better overall program vs Clemson or Florida.

What a joke....

I find the cut off at 32 finishes and the top 17 kinda fricky
