Historically, LSU is not an elite football program.

Your point? Minnesota claims 7 National Championships and there's no way in hell I'd trade their program for ours

Maybe we should claim more MNC's like da gumps

I never claimed Minnesota was an elite program.

And listing 2011 as an unclaimed national title is amazing.

In winning % LSU is anywhere from 13th to 15th. Several sites disagree

In 2011, 7 selectors named us NC. Thankfully, we don't claim it

yes--but what is your cutoff for elite ( based on that list) the top 3, top 5, top 10?

I think you could break it up pretty well by looking at all-time wins.

I would call the top 8-10 teams elite. that ranges from 915 wins to 848-811. After #10, there's a decent gap down to #11 with 778 wins. LSU is #12 with 762. I group them in the damn good but not elite group that ranges from #9 or 11 to 14.

where would you classify programs like Florida...over the past 25-30 years they have been more elite than some traditional powers like Notre Dame....

All-time winning percentage is deceiving. Does anybody think Alabama is only the fifth greatest CFB program of all-time and USC is just the eighth best CFB program in history?

Florida is in the group behind LSU, UGA, and AU.

Michigan is elite I guess but they have only 2 national titles in the poll era. Most of their claimed national championships occurred before the invention of the forward pass.

That's up to you.I'm a fair-minded person. I'd have a hard time buying that Miami and FSU and Penn State aren't elite cfb programs and they are WAY below LSU.

and that's pretty much irrelevant. Historically, neither is Florida State, Florida, or Oregon. Things change. LSU, right now, has all the resources in the world to be an elite program and shouldn't just settle because of what their record in the early 90s was.

Notre Dame hasn't been an elite program in over 20 years.

Then this whole thread is, because the OP said LSU was 9th in winning, whatever that means.
