any sport
We've all had a season where a game early on was a sign that yep this season's gonna suck
football
2019 vs Portland St , even though it was a W it was underwhelming and a sign of things to come. Frick you Chad Morris.

For Bama in the Saban+ era:

2010: Arkansas - Ryan Mallet - we should have lost that game though I didn't see it at the time.

2013: A number of them against OOC cupcakes even (see Colorado State)

2016, 2017- a lot of them but we got bailed out by crazy talent

2018 - Tua crushing a lot of bad teams only to get crushed by a decent team with a decent defense

2021 - Florida game that we should have won by 3+ scores.

Btw, OP, underrated topic

I posit that our performance against Appalachian State in 2022 was concerning.

As an LSU fan, I get the point, but- those don't really count

OP says early games that indicate the season will suck. LSU went 9-3 regular season, 6-2 in the SEC, both years they lost to Fla State. One of those years they made it to Atlanta for the SEC Championship. They won bowls both years, so both were 10 win seasons. That isn't "sucking".

Now, if you want to say Miss State or Mizzou in 2020, yeah. Those were games where we could throw up and down the field and score 30-40 pts, but the defense was so bad that if we EVER punted, we'd lose. Or the 2021 game against UCLA, where "things were going to get back to normal", and Coach O was talking shite with UCLA fans and their sissy blue colors... and then they pushed our shite in.
THOSE games were indications things weren't going to be good.

2016, Kirby's first season, we beat Nicholls St. by 2 points in our second game. I knew it was gonna be a long one after that.

2016 Wisconsin.

It took 3 more games before Les was fired and 3 more years before Alleva was allowed to retire with "grace", but both should have been left on the tarmac in Green Bay.
