Does this mean LANK is staying?
I don’t think so. Assuming Milroe is gone, the general thinking seems to be that the QB competition will be between Ty Simpson and Austin Mack. Five star QB Keelon Russell is also joining the program and will be an early enrollee. I wouldn’t be surprised if Alabama also added another guy from the portal. If Lonergan wants to play and play soon, Alabama probably isn’t the place to be.

LANK stanks. Needs to go. I think Lonergan will be solid somewhere. Pitt got one of our backups last year.

I think some of them probably show up thinking they can win the job. Then they don't and they move on. Dylan apparently had a nice spring and fall last year and the coaches gave him some run during the QB competition, it just didn't end up happening.
I guess I'm thinking more so a guy like Walker Howard. When he signed with LSU, they had Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier on the roster. He knew they were ahead of him and, at the earliest, couldn't start until 2024 if he beat out Nussmeier. What did he do? He transferred to Ole Miss who had Jaxson Dart. The earliest he could have started was this year had Dart declared last year. Then, Ole Miss signs another kid who passes him up. What happens with Howard? He signs with ULL and will presumably start in 2025. Had he waited his turn, he's probably in line to start at LSU next year if Nussmeier declares
You just don't have many guys like Nussmeier anymore who were highly rated guys out of high school, know they are young and behind other good players on the depth chart coming in, but put in their time and the work to start as upper-classmen.

Yea totally agree there - especially on that 2nd move. I totally get signing with a big program where you truly think you can go in and win the job in year 2 or 3. Then, if it doesn't work out, you move on.
But when it doesn't happen, I'd think you'd want to go to a place with you had a very clear chance at winning the job immediately if you practiced well.
Guys who show up to a loaded room where they are clearly not going to play for 1-2 years (like Howard) then leave after 1 to go to another situation very similar...........is strange.

Nope. Ty has been like that for us (TBD on whether he has solid success like Nuss or even ends up starting). Beck did that at UGA. Not a lot of others.

Eli Holstein was 4th string at Bama. Lonergan was 3rd string. Holstein is already a better QB than Milroe. Lonergan will be the best of the bunch; he will be better than Ty.
The GOAT made fricked up decisions regarding QB. He's always been lost when it comes to a QB if he doesn't have a top tier OC. That's why he ran from the NFL.

Holstein lit up 4 of the worst pass defenses in the FBS plus an FCS defense and then threw more INTs than TDs and about 5 YPA the rest of the season.
Vs FCS Youngstown State, #130 Kent St, #125 WVU, #91 Cincy, #79 UNC
113/172 (66%)
313 YPG
9.1 YPA
15 TD
3 INT
vs Syracuse, SMU, Virginia, Louisville
67/119 (56%)
132 YPG
5.6 YPA
2 TD
4 INT

When Milroe announces he is not returning, everyone is invited for the party of the century!!!!

I saw a graphic yesterday that 2707 players had already entered the portal, which represents 25% of all players. That's crazy. That same graphic said 30% of the players who entered last year never got signed by another school
People love to cheery pick examples of the portal being positive, but from a player perspective it's almost assuredly been a net negative. 30% just straight up out of football; and you have to think over 20% end up in a worse situation (and I feel I'm being pretty generous there - it's probably a lot higher).
I just don't see the transfer portal THE WAY IT IS NOW as a "good thing". I'm not saying it should go away but it definitely needs work.
Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if some schools are telling kids they'll sign them and then just don't in order to disrupt a rival school. They may not be snagging their star players but it screws with depth if you're constantly retraining a new backup.

Quote me entirely. But if we're honest if Tua starts the entire season we likely finish undefeated and blow UGA out.

Being THAT guy in high school, and then with NIL and agents constantly telling you how amazing you are?
It's no surprise that they get it in their heads they should be starting almost immediately.

Considering how prone to injury Tua has been, I doubt this is the case.

Even with injuries Tua is having a HOF career. I swear y'all are some dumb SOBs.

TVD will have a better pro career than Bryce. I always believed that.
Tyler Van Dyke is about to play his 7th year of college football at Maryland or UConn.
Bryce is averaging about 275 YPG passing over the last 3 weeks in the National Football League.
But yea, continue calling others dumb SOBs big fella.

My point (which I'm sure is irrelevant to you, but sure) is that I don't know if Tua PLAYS in every game in 2017. We don't know either way, but how many full seasons has he had?
My point is that *IF* he starts every game, it's possible he's not IN the UGA game due to injuries.

I think he wanted QBs like Milroe on the team for scout teams, and he foolishly(IMO) liked the types of QBs he struggled against.
And sometimes it ends up just being the best QB you have available, like with Blake Sims.
And we also had a bit of a drop in OCs, turning them over decently fast. We had a good QB recruited last year, but he transferred out when Saban retired. Wouldn't have been starting this year, but should have been good in the next year or 2.

I agree with you. I also believe Milroe would be a different QB had Sark been around to coach him.
