Hightower hoped to receive a medical redshirt and secure an extra year of eligibility following the injury. Saban was vague when asked about the redshirt, believing it's a moot point because Hightower's talent likely will make him an early NFL entry as well.

"I haven't talked to him about it," Hightower said, "but I think I got the medical redshirt."

Good for him but if he can't get a fat contract he should.

If wants to stay I hope he can. Isn't the NCAA stingy with medical redshirts?

Assuming he makes a 100% recovery and has a year that most would expect, he'll be in the 2011 NFL Draft.

That would be awesome, but I think he's at Alabama only two more years regardless. 2010 to recover completely, and 2011 to improve his draft stock.

They would have to make an exception in his case. I'm pretty sure he played more than the rule allows.

No, our 2nd string Freshman QB got one last year. Found out after season over.

I think you cant play in 3 or more games and get it though. I think he played 3-4 this year...?? Bama fans

No way around that rule. You just have to ask if they will bend the rule for him in this case. I did the calculation when it happened and he was over the lower limit of playing time to be considered for a medical redshirt. He wasn't much over it, but he was over it.

1st quarter of his 4th game I believe. I remember thinking when it happened Damn he missed out on a medical redshirt then realizing he wasn't going to be here 5 years anyways and it's a moot point.

Probably isn't that big of a deal. Bama doesn't look like they are going to be relying on fifth year seniors on defense so much.

Technically, if you take away the garbage time in the two games prior to Arkansas and the fact he left the Arky game in the 1st quarter, he didn't play a full four games.
