I like Tom Petty’s music. One thing about LSU lately, when they play the Gaytors, LSU doesn’t back down.

I am a Tom Petty fan.

Here’s the problem for the Gators:

It would be cool theoretically if you played Gainesville before the games but you don’t because it’s a terrible song.

You play Won’t Back Down - we should ONLY be played if you win the game.

Calling Baton Rouge:

1. Great song that everyone knows
2. Mentions Baton Rouge
3. Is fun & not dependent on winning

So Won’t Back Down paints the Gators into a corner & it sounds dumb when losing.

Dunno. Maybe it’s because UF is trying to claim a semi famous rocker who had a few good records as their own. I once read an article that reported that Tom Petty didn’t like the Gators. It mentioned something about frat boys giving him a hard time back in the day

When Petty played halftime at Super Bowl XLII, the NFL Network asked him which team he and the Heartbreakers were pulling for.

Patriots or Giants?

“We’re Gators, man,” he said.

Curious to know if they “wont back down” in Omaha. Worked out well for their football team on Tom Petty night last year.

You know who backed down in Omaha?

2 and Q bitch.

Tom Petty = one of the top 10 American rock artists in history.

Won't Back Down is one of his greatest hit. It's the only thing that UF has gotten right in recent years.

It's really sad that anyone would think this. Petty was okay, he wasn't one of the giants.

Chuck Berry
Elvis
Jerry Lee
Jimi Hendrix
Lowell George
Prince
Paul Simon
Tina Turner
Stevie Nix
Ronnie Van Zant
Dwayne Allman
John Fogerty
Jerry Garcia
Levon Helm
Janis Joplin
Warren Zevon
... and many, many more.

I love Little Feat and I love The Band but George Lowell nor Levon Helm come close to Tom Petty.

What would Tom Petty think of Tom Petty Day at The Swamp? The late musician's younger brother and oldest daughter say he would be humbled and happy at his hometown's support

One of his last recorded and produced featured live shows was "Live from Gatorville" at the McConnel Center on the UF campus. He had Stevie Nicks singing back up vocals on a lot of songs. It's a fantastic live show btw. The fact that he produced a featured concert in Gainesville speaks for itself. He may have left there when he was still a teenager but he claims Gainesville as his hometown

I disagree. Yes "Won't back down" would be a little hokey if it was played to rally the home team to a win but it's not. It was first played as a tribute to Tom Petty right after he passed and has simply become a tradition for them to play after the 3rd quarter at the end of their other traditional song. Not to mention it has a very catchy chorus that works well in a stadium setting

I’m pretty sure Petty didn’t write a song for you either. The song you like to claim is about the record company.

Except it wasn't that it "simply" became a tradition. LSUs band played during the tribute (in typical trashy fashion). The fan base wanted a redux of the tribute and it stuck.
