You’re insane.
10% per year may happen over a 5 year stretch in a bull market, but it will get wiped out by a looming inevitable recession. The nominal rate of return for capital markets is like 8% this century, which is 3.5-4% inflation adjusted(using housing market indexes for adjusting, CPI greatly underestimates real inflation)

nobody on this site has any real knowledge of what is going on right now with BK and his contract. people hear rumors and they run with it. one major booster is going to pay the bulk of the buy out. and nobody is going to right out a check for 53 million. it will be payed out in installments. and I would be willing to bet that it will be cut in half.

Why do you believe it will be cut in half?
Brian Kelly signaled he is willing to go to war when he sued LSU.
Do you think it will happen because of corrupt Louisiana courts?
How awesome would it be if this became a Supreme Court case because the Louisiana courts fouled it up so bad with nepotism?

That's nominal, so 3-4% with inflation

LSU has the money to do it. But we also have very moronic forces at work behind the scenes. It's not doing us any favors and will only end up fricking us.
I was ready to move on from BK like everyone else. And like everyone else in the real world, I expected we'd be on the hook to pay him until he found another gig. But the money was always going to be $53M until that point.
Now - nobody knows what the frick is going on. I don't know if it's Landry or what, but it doesn't look good and I think in the end, will end up costing us a lot more... starting with finding a new coach.

Went to Canes in Austin tonight and they had "Official Sponsor of Texas Athletics" everywhere including the drink cups. LSU having to get sip money now just to pay for bad coaches I guess. tDecline is back and it is real.

You're dealing with inflation either way.

What is this risk free investment that has a 10% return?

The contract also says that if they are firing him for cause they must give him a notice and he has seven days to respond.
No such notice was given. The chance to say they are firing him for cause went away during their bye week.

No investment is risk free.
But as the Texas fan pointed out, 8% is the market average and even at 8%, BK ends up with more than $54mil.
He also has it free and clear, his next salary isn't figured into it.
Maybe it isn't worth the risk to him. Maybe he doesn't plan on working again. Maybe LSU can't even afford a bulk payment like that. Who knows?

8% wasn’t adjusted for inflation, but if you guys want to know the real FMV of the $54 million he’s owed, I can do a thorough breakdown tomorrow adjusted for when it was set to be paid out and theoretical, risk free rate on that money over the terms(360 day calendar)
E.g. the 9 million he’s owed next year will be worth more than the 9.4 in the final year given ROI less inflation(theoretical, it’s hard to actually get real returns unless you manage your own money, and he clearly doesn’t)

…and the locker room Cheez-its commercial that is apparently the last one they’ll ever make.

BK has skeletons in the closet since he came to LSU. they could have fired him his first year but they didn't. a deal will be made.
