Wow you guys really are broken. And just over one loss to an alpha team. You don't see fans of other teams broken like this after losing a game.

I love CFB, but I sometimes wonder if it should be a collegiate sport.
Football is most definitely a collegiate sport. It originated in the colleges and universities of our nation. The real question is whether is should be a professional sport.
Let's be honest... You pull for a professional team because of where you live at any given time, but you pull for a college team because of WHO YOU ARE.

So the only sport that was actually invented in colleges in this country, shouldn’t be a college sport?
You may want to read up on the origins of American football.

No it's not.
CFB teams spend FAR less time on the practice field than they did 25+ years ago
and much more time in the class room.
Players used to be warehosed and red shirted in huge numbers and it's not close
to what it used to be.
The biggest difference is obviously TV and
the exposure but I think it's a good thing
for all of college athletics.

The starting point should be a simple question: What is the purpose of collegiate athletics? When football first developed in elite east coast colleges in the late 1800s, that answer was simple and obvious -- athletics and physical fitness were considered essential components of cultivating the "complete man." Math, science, literature, philosophy, history, and athletics. All of these things were connected in 19th century thinking. Now? Clearly this is not the case. The student--athlete model is a facade for what is really a corporatized farm league populated by athletes who (for the most part) have no true interest in higher education at all. On top of that, the sport does more to harm the brain than it does to cultivate intelligence. We are approaching the breaking point, to be honest. It is difficult to see from the vantage point of an SEC fan -- obviously the SEC will be the last to give it up.
I understand all that, but the sport is only popular because of its amateur quality. Take that away and no one will watch i.e. there’s no money in it.

Not as they are defined today, I like college football as it is because it offers an education for those that wont make it, but it is the NFL minor league and it should be treated as such.
I think a system where cfb receives financial aid from a general nfl fund- all names and associations can rename the same would be good. Essentially structure so still have free tuition, etc. But instead of being a financial burden on the university, that cost is largely borne by the NFL. Profits over and above could be used by the university.
Seems to be a logical direction as we start to pay players for their likeness, and eventually for their play.

If we're to be honest the current professionalized version of some collegiate sports should be eliminated completely.
They really do nothing for too many of the central athletes that a minor league system couldn't, and they undermine the stated purpose of those institutions. A better model would be true minor league teams affiliated with those institutions with classes chosen and mandated by the teams and geared towards furthering athletes towards their chosen professions.
The facade of amateurism necessitates dishonesty and enables exploitation. We can create an open and honest system that still allows us to cheer our favorite teams.

Dear Diary,
I can’t figure out if I’m a Missouri fan or an Aggie.

Gumps lose one game and they are ready to end all college football

U are basically correct , it is basically professional sports without it being professional
Posted on 11/15/19 at 7:52 pm to Eli Goldfinger
There would be no other sports without it. Einstein, you are not.

Universities should not be a free NFL minor league system. The entire thing is gross and as much as I loved it growing up, I hope it implodes.
