So you did not know the school you are a fan of is 1st in the SEC with major NCAA violations? that is pretty sad
UGA has 6 "major violations" and THREE involve the BASKETBALL program and of the other 3 in football TWO
involved giving a recruit a ride and "illegal contact"
another involved a booster paying the tuition of a walk
-on.
quote:
On to the University of Georgia, who has 6 major infractions resulting in a total of 9 years of probation. First up in 1978 both basketball and football were busted for improper transportation and give a slap on the wrist. In ’82 UGA had a recruiting problem (too much contact, alas no hookers) which resulted in a year of probation, reduction of scholarships, and a show cause penalty for two assistants. In ’85 there was more recruiting trouble, this time in basketball. Another year of probation, another reduction in scholarships, and this time 3 assistants were barred from recruiting (no show cause though). In both of these cases it seems the biggest problems were that the assistants lied to the NCAA (they really hate that), and that the coaches drove recruits around town. In 1997 it was the football teams turn again, after a booster paid for a walk on’s tuition, a runner obtained high school transcripts for the coaches, and they gave money and food to the hungry recruits (the NCAA hates that as well, if they could they would give the Christian Children’s Fund the death penalty, waaaay too many free meals). Lost some scholarships, gained two years of probation. Finally we cycle back to basketball for the final infraction, occurring in 2004. This one is funny to me, because a son totally dicked his father over. UGA head coach Jim Harrick hired his son Jim Harrick Jr as an assistant. While an assistant Junior wired money to a recruit (wire fraud, on top of NCAA stuff) and taught a class "Coaching Principles and Strategies of Basketball" and gave three top players A’s, even though they never attended class (the biggest give away was that it was a 6 hour class, dumbass). This resulted in a show cause penalty of eight years for JR, and caused UGA to not renew daddy’s contract. They also vacated a couple seasons, lost some scholarships, and received 4 years of probation.
Let's compare them to Auburn blatantly
buying [link=(Auburn, 1958
The violations: An Auburn booster was found to have offered Guntersville High School quarterback Don Fuell a number of luxury items, including a motorboat and an air-conditioned apartment (Fuell was then married with a young son), in order to induce him to sign with the Tigers.

Auburn, 1956
The violations: Through Auburn assistant coach Hal Herring, a booster was found to have given $500 each to Harry and Robert Beaube, twin brothers from Emma Sansom High School in Gadsden, in order to induce them to play for the Tigers.
The sanctions: Auburn was hit with three years of probation, a two-year postseason ban and a two-year television ban through the 1957 season. The probation was the longest ever handed out by the NCAA at that time.
quote:
Auburn, 1993
The violations: Auburn booster Corky Frost was found to have given more than $4,000 in cash and merchandise — including steaks and tires for a car — to Tigers defensive back Eric Ramsey. Ramsey made several secret recordings of conversations with Frost and Auburn assistant coach Larry Blakeney, who also provided cash to Ramsey from another booster. Head football coach Pat Dye, then also the school’s athletic director, was never directly implicated, but charged with lack of institutional control.
UGA's "violations" in football aren't close to the glorious history of cheating down at the Plains.

Mark Richt had probably the toughest drug policy in the country and it was enforced
Really do you want me to list players the were suspended and even kicked out, including Josh Harvey Clemens (a 5 stars safety who started as a Freshman)
BTW he also kicked out Trey Mathews AND Nick Marshall
(Non drug related)only to have another SEC school welcome them with open arms.
BTW how many football players has UGA ever enrolled or given a scholarship to who were KICKED OUT of another SEC school?????,

Are you implying Auburn hasn't suspended or dismissed players because of drugs? This narrative about Richt being so strict is really overplayed.

Interesting that you quoted this. Do you consider Vince Dooley to be a man who would tell the truth or not cheat with the NCAA?

Yea and we all know you haven't been investigated since
then and the NCAA even changed its rule and wording regarding "improper benefits" specifically because of
Cam Newton.

What did this have to do with Auburn?

Funny how when we bring up 1980 its stupid and irrelevant but then violations from 1958 are relevant. I'd guess anyone that was involved in the 1958 scandal that is still alive can't walk without a walker or they live in a memory care center

And speaking of relevant why do basketball and swimming
violations get brought in the context of dirty football
programs?

Id agree that's a big reach, unless the football coach aids in that recruiting or is an assistant swimming coach? Well there goes my afternoon researching if football coaches recruit swimmers.....

That's a discussion for the SEC swimming and recruiting board. Wait, there isn't one of those?

Nope that would be Auburn.
And if we're talking football violations (which is the context of the whole discusion)AU leads the way by far
with 5 and 3 to 1 when it comes to providing improper benfits.

So respond to the Don Fuel question above and we can talk about UGA...
