ONLY LSU fans get all panicky and butt hurt when a prospect from Louisiana goes elsewhere. Most schools have an in-state rival and the fans are used to seeing recruits go elsewhere. Not LSU and their small-pond child-like fans. And you are right...angst and hate directed at players that choose to go elsewhere is close to cult-like behavior.
I live here in LA and the widespread ignorance about the rest of the SEC, and country for that matter, is breathtaking. And if you don’t sip the koolaid even if a LSU fan, you are called all kinds of names. For instance, LSU fans were pushing the script the 2018 LSU D would be “one of top three in conference.” If you write “no, Ala, AU, State, and GA are the top returning SEC Ds, they interpret that as saying LSU is terrible.... which had nothing to do with the original question.

NFLSU, y’all are always entertaining, every year. It is like listening to a stemwinder revival preacher... y’all start the year low and slow, then the miasma from the fever swamps seeps in and the pitch level rises. Finally the downdebayou crowd roars at full throat abou “all that talent” ( as if no one else has good football athletes) and the breathless stampede to see who can be the most wild-eyed is on.
No word about the perinnial LSU excellent “Heisman candidate” or “eight first round draft picks-lock” have been widely circulate yet... but there has been lots of screeching about “best front 7 in the nation,” and “best receiver corp in the SEC.” There is still lots of time for ever more outlandish claims to surface. I guess I’m a minority LSU fan because I know where we are in the hierarchy of the SEC in 2018 and I would never trash a kid for going elsewhere. Would I be upset? Yes but it wouldn’t be the end of the world. I think I’m realistic.

I think only 7SU fans get that upset over talent leaving the state. If your coach didn't suck, you'd be able to attract them. Seems pretty simple to me.

Hahahaha. LSU has been mediocre in football the last 10 years. They haven't been relevant in any other sport since the late 90s except baseball, softball(on and off) and tumbling around on mats and shite. So mediocre to less than mediocre in everything else for 20 years. Wait, wait, wait, wait though.......... you guys don't give a crap right? How many national championships, SEC titles, playoff wins do you have in last 10 years? Acting like your all world? For someone to come on a forum and call someone else mediocre you better have racked up some SEC Titles or National Championships recently.
