This is actually a great answer. It makes the focus on the college experience and education, which is far more important.
I love Alabama sports teams, but I love the school more. If Alabama wins a game I still have to pay employees, pay mortgage, etc. I do those things with a little bigger smile when Bama wins, but it doesn't impact the responsibilities of my life just because the team I support is successful.

I Think football helps the school experince more than any other sport. So I would think they go hand and hand. But, of course, I never attended the university. Although I have partied in Ttown like a boss on several occasions.

LSU would have .5 more SEC football championships if you went the 50% of Alabama route though.
