You can’t win a natty if you can’t make the playoffs

Records indicate that ALABAMA has been to 3 Playoffs, 2 National Championship games, with a National Championship this decade.
Recent unearthed documents have also confirmed that LSU has been to as many playoffs this decade as Auburn and Mississippi State. You just keep doing you.

No. They do not put uo with a bad record for long at Bama now a days. He better improve his win percentage vs ranked teams or he will be gone.

I think he wins one, and anything beyond that, I'd be surprised. Hell, Mike Shula won 10 games at Alabama and was a horrific coach. Gene Stallings was considered a failure coach before getting to Alabama and winning a NC. We're in much, much better shape than any of those guys were when they took over.

You have this backwards. He did fine against ranked teams, it was the losses to unranked Vandy and Oklahoma that killed last season. Look at his record at Washington as well; he dominated ranked teams and his losses were to unranked teams

Yes, that appears to be his blind spot, and if I remember correctly is what the UW fans I've chatted with have said as well. He performs well against ranked teams, but will often turn around the next week and either lose a game he's not supposed to or struggle mightily.

His win percentage vs top ten teams is better than his win percentage vs unranked teams.
It's a crazy statistic.

Yep, it's one of those "weird" things that I hope he gets a hold of and it doesn't cost us playoff appearances, as it did last season. But it's definitely a "thing". I'm sure my pepto bismol purchases will go up if it continues.

With a 12 team play, the susceptibility to drop an unranked matchup or two actually works pretty well. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Napier won't win a title as HC(fbs), neither will Kalen. I would be shocked if either are coaching at their respective schools in 4 years.

Is that a one-year sample size at BAMA, as he completely overhauls our roster and football philosophy? Or should we include the stats from Washington?

I think it includes his record at UW and previous stops as well. I've been told by UW fans that he'll beat the ranked teams and he can get his teams up for those but then will turn around the following week and completely lay an egg and either lose one he's not supposed to, or barely escape a game that they should be blowing out the team.

Ain't no way with KANE WOMMACK coaching that defense? He ain't Kirby Smart but keep deluding yourself that he's actually SEC competent
Kane Wommack total defense ranking last year (and his first year), 21st. Kirby Smart total defense ranking last year, 30th.
Looks like the only thing with competency issues is your post.

You're right. He's the guy who beat Kirby Smart.
No argument there

Entire time at the DI level

At Washington, Coach's first year, he was 11-2 with losses to 9 and 4 @ UCLA. And @Arizona State, which made the playoffs this last season.
Year 2 Coach was 14-1, with a loss in the title game to Michigan. His record was 25-3 if you're counting.
Hell of a sample size.

Nothing would surprise me these days.

He did it well in Washington. He won over 80 percent of his vs ranked there. But yea, i was confusing Napier and Kalen. My bad. The memory issues suck arse.
