Again, I ask this question. Let's assume that ESPN goes belly up because they aren't making any money which is because the providers said "shite ESPN we can't pay what your asking to broadcast your network so screw off." Now there are other things that would be at play here but let's ignore them for now if we can.

What makes the SEC think that they could then assume ownership of the SEC Network and make even the same amount of money that ESPN was making? The infrastructure investment from the SEC to be able to do that would be huge....YUUUUUGGGEEE!

Forget it. Sport entities, amateur or pro, aren't in the television business...they sell their product to the people who are. Being a cattle farmer doesn't mean that you can operate a successful steakhouse.

When you are losing revenue, but decide to overpay just to control the market it tends to bite you in the arse.

added $2.9 billion per year in payments from $4.4 billion to $7.3 billion while losing almost $100 million a year in subscribers, due to its political agenda

ESPN'S INCREASING RIGHTS PAYMENTS PER YEAR
Old Contract New Contract Difference
NFL $1.1 billion $1.9 billion +$800 million
NBA $575 million $1.4 billion +$825 million
MLB $296 million $700 million +$404 million
CFP $123.8 million $608.3 million +$484.5 million
SEC $150 million $300 million +$150 million
ACC $155 million $240 million +$85 million
Rose Bowl $37.5 million $80 million +$42.5 million
MLS $8 million $75 million +$67 million

NEW RIGHTS DEALS PER YEAR COST

U.S. Open: $75 million
American Athletic Conference: $18.5 million
Mid-American Conference: $7.69 million
Allstate Sugar Bowl: $6.66 million
Little League Baseball: $7.5 million

This has fascinated me for several years. Makes me wonder if the NFL could be arrogant enough to ruin their product

Put a better product on the field and the money won't dry up. No one cares about Miss State going 5-7, and no one will watch that crap

The SECN money affects us all, you myopic moron. This has 0.0% to do with the product MSU puts out. Go back to your herp-derp posting about 40 times and trivial crap

That's the old model. New model says the production aspect can be done on a regional/conference level through the individual University J-schools.

Transmission is where the networks and providers come in ... but with cord cutting all of that changes.

Within ten years PPV downloads over 100mps fiber optics will be all the rage in every home and at $25 bucks per game, or $300 packages for your team's H & A schedule, it'll be like adding 500k seats to your stadium.

If you believe our institutions are not business savvy enough to take advantage of modern technology while utilising their own in house talent mixed in with some local production subscontractors ... you're not really in touch with what is going on out there these days.

No. I hope they go belly up. I used to enjoy the Network, but they have went down this social justice road and tuned me out. I spend no money on professional sports. College sports were always my cup of tea. The spending race is out of control. Tickets, concessions, parking, booster donations, etc. The only true bargain anymore are the gameday programs for 5 Bucks. Everything else is ridiculous.
I do not care who it is, including the GOAT Saban over in Tuscaloser. Everyone in the athletic department is OVERPAID. ADs, coaches, I mean everyone except your everyday people, people, that really do the work. I got into Tiger baseball as it was a growing quality product, that was extremely reasonable on my pocketbook. With that being said......

The problem is Disney. ESPN was fine until the ultra liberal gay friendly folks at Disney decided to buy the white heterosexual males favorite channel and then proceed to shame us into believing that we are all Neanderthals because we don't want to watch two guys sucking dick or that we are racist because we all don't think like Stephen A. Smith or want to listen to his race-baiting bullshite all day long. It ramped up during the Ferguson riots to the point that was all they talked about. It ramped up even further with the Micheal Sam bullshite and airing the two dudes kissing each other. Then the bullshite about jumping on the side of the black athlete at Missouri as they attempted a hostile takedown of a state sponsored university. (That's 3 major things for Missouri-I hope y'all are happy)Then the Bruce Jenner bullshite and them giving it the courage award over many other more deserving people. Then the Trump election and them letting Stephen A Smith run amuck for a fricking week talking about how stupid all white people are. ESPN is the most recent victim of the Trump Election. They want to know why they are losing viewers? It's because a majority of us are not interested in any of their ultra liberal social causes.
But again Disney owns them and they will only ramp it up more. They will not sell ESPN off. They will continue pouring money into the hemmorrahing cluster frick because that is what they do. They dictate what popular opinion is.

That was a quick addiction, the SEC programs have received revenue from the SECN for about 3 yrs, right?

I'm sure your last statement nails me, but if your prediction is correct, the quality of college sports on television is going to take a huge hit. I can't wait to see somebody's journalism dept. bringing me my college football fix every Saturday.

Should SEC schools be overly concerned about the forecasts that say ESPN is going belly up? That sweet, sweet SEC Network money is gonna dry up and a lot of us have become addicted to it

No. The SEC Network money is a ridiculously low percentage of income for athletic depts. It's around 1 to 5 percent of income. The vast majority of income comes through the gate and always has.

Also even if ESPN crashed this moment in time and evaporated. The SEC Network has proven itself popular enough to 1. operate independently of a parent network if necessary (all the hardwork is done but such a scenario is still unlikely) which leads to 2. be picked up by another parent network at equal or higher value (the network has succeeded beyond anyone's wildest measure and a renegotiation or sale would reflect that).

Would CBS shell out the dough and just do SEC games from 11-9 every Saturday?
