Just thinking the other day about how much LSU fans hate Saban for switching sides to Bama. Do TN fans feel the same way about Chavis?
What about FL fans and Gonzales (WR/passing game coach)?

No. His boss got fired. New coach came in and brought his daddy with him.
What was he suppose to do? The guy needed a job.

Exactly. Totally different scenario than Saban's.
I remember reading infamous Vol fan Sabanocchio's post about how much better Tennessee's defense would be under Monte than it had been under The Chief.
I think many Vol fans believed this, and it was obvious both Kiffen and former UT AD Mike Hamilton believed it as well.
Only problem was, Monte has yet to improve a defense from one year to the next. To be fair, he's been at two different schools now, but it's not like he didn't have talent to work with.
The main problem with Monte's Cover 2 in college is the restrictions on practice time college football has that the NFL doesn't. The Cover 2 needs a lot of reps to make it work to perfection.
Meanwhile The Chief has improved his defense in some respect both years he's been at LSU. This year's looks to be his best ever, anywhere.

Most Tennessee fans hated Chavis, so I'm going with no.

Dude, really? I am embarrassed that you would even go there. There is no comparison with him and Saban, none what so ever. Chavis knew he would get the ax. Saban left LSU to go to the NFL, big, big difference. What would make you think that LSU fans hate Saban, he build LSU, left it in great shape, no hating here on him. The only thing I don't care for is how he handled himself in Miami. Now those people hate him!

Is this a joke? Saban turned down a raise up to $2.4MM cause Miami kept upping the ante to close to $4MM.
Chavis was fired.
Chavis was fired.

no hating here on him
really? no one at LSU hates Saban? wow.
people hate him for returning to Bama, not for leaving for the NFL.

Chief can't cover spread. 07 Florida game was one of most unprepared defense's i've ever seen. Truly terrible.
He also played terrible covereges. In 08 UCLA games they have like a third string QB and what do we do? Our corners play at least ten yards off recievers. The entire fourth quarter they didn't throw a pass past 5 yards deep and marched down the field and scored the winning touchdown. I've never been more ticked at a coach in my life as i was chavis. He always done that. If it wasn't for all our talent in 90's and early 2000's he would have been gone a long time ago.

1) Speak for yourself and MANY LSU fans. I have NEVER hated Saban
2) He did NOT "switch sides to Bama". He tried out the NFL and, upon deciding it was not for him, took the BEST job that was AVAILABLE to him
3) Chavis is an assistant coach that was part of a staff that was fired. Why in the hell would anyone blame him for taking the LSU job?
Shhhhhhesssssshhh!!!

I really like Chavis but that SOB would always give up first downs on a play 10 yards or longer. I dont know why his arse was so obsessed with the prevent lol.

He also probably said that to LSU media, and he probably said the same thing in 98' to TN media.
We shall see how the season plays out, but that 98' D he had with us was stout! I'm trying to remember everyone on that D and I believe somewhere around 9 or 10 of the 11 starters are/were major players in the NFL.
Chief's problem at TN was a direct result of the recruiting going down. His bread and butter is pressure. If he has some stud LBs and DLs to creat pressure, he lets the DBs gamble and press the receivers. At TN our recruiting started slipping(or at least the actual quality of player and not the star ranking) and we lacked more than one stud LB or DL on the field at a time, pressure(and our sack totals dropped) and thus he was forced to back the DBs off. This pissed TN fans off and thus the "3rd and Chavis" was born, but it was a direct result of the talent slide at TN.
