Makes sense. Easy to forget that there was no media back then and most money was probably made at the gate on gameday.
I think people assume that Neyland has always been the SEC's largest, but it became so only after expansion following the 1971 season.
Before that, LSU and Tulane were conducting a stadium war - who had the biggest. Tulane had the benefit of their stadium being used for the Sugar Bowl. So every time Tiger Stadium expanded, Tulane would expand theirs and vice versa.

Getting reverse-ground must not be much fun. You better simmer down or you're going to pop an artery before Thursday.

I went to many LSU/ole miss and LSU/State games in Jackson.
My favorite Bulldog in 1980 dismantled the Tigers in Jackson with a punt return for TD, Kick-off return for TD, and TD rec.

Those State teams were pretty good. It's what made me become a bulldog fan in a Tiger family.

Since 1992, LSU has out scored Mississippi St 777-258.

The only thing we are nervous about is that there will be enough corn dogs left over at the tailgates at half time. Because that's when we will be leaving. Because we will be up 28.

Three posts in a row saying this, by three different LSU fans? Nothing says "All I have is this one comeback," like seeing the exact same stat, at the same time, by three different people.

Weird. We won it on a last second field goal as well.

Topwater is now a god amongst the LSU fans. He is the caveman that first utilized fire.

There sure won't be if my arse is in town. I'm gonna eat all those motherfrickers before kickoff.

-In 1914, LSU didn't play MSU due to the Dawgs four straight years of shutting LSU out.
You're so right. God our 1910 team was an embarrassment. That 5-31 rout from Sewanee: The University of the South STILL haunts my dreams. We were playing in New Orleans for christ's sake! Where was the home field advantage? Negatigers! THE WHOLE PLACE WAS FULL OF NEGATIGERS!
At least we got rid of Mayhew after that season. Can we all agree he was the WORST coaching gaff in LSU history? Only won ONE Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association game in TWO seasons!!! He was probably a worse hire than Shula for Bama.
But luckily we corrected the course and have had a decent hundred plus years since.
Oh - and in case you're curious what MSU has done these past few years I've included this informative graph to show you what a whoopin' y'all have been putting on Vanderbilt. Heck - you're only one win away from being .500 with Kentucky! That's an impressive feat considering the teams Calipari puts on the floor - no?
What does that percentage column represent? I'm not very good at math.

How's Dana Moore's son's lawsuit coming along? Is he still suing John Cohen and Miss St for ruining his MLB dreams?

I posted this a few times already, but I've seen a few State fans other than deltaland insist State will score as much or more than Wisconsin did.
24 PTs
Since 1896 MSU has scored 24 or more on LSU 13 times.
LSU has scored 24 or more on State 46 times.
If state wins it's going to be a lower scoring affair.

It really isn't that hard to realize I'm not a fricking MSU fan. You read into my post enough to get max rustled, surely you could pick up on me referring to MSU in third person.

most of the Tulane expansion was funded by the Sugar Bowl...I think old Tulane Stadium was at the 82,000+ capacity before the original South End Zone was added to Tiger Stadium...
I don't think you could pull off the two games in one day any more (in Jackson)...it was a really neat idea that worked well
and keep in mind that the Aggies came to Baton Rouge every year until 1973 or 74...Kyle Field wasn't that big either...

How much did you guys pay Aggie to borrow that excuse?
