So what is LSU's current policy?

They don't fricking know. They just know it's got to be worse than everyone else's because otherwise they'd lose their status as perpetual victim.

He was okay, our backup was about the same as him last year.

LSU fans never disappoint

Backups are at least as talented. Obviously less experienced. Rosenthal was most likely never gonna play every game. This isn't a surprise to anyone in the fanbase much less the coaches. I'm not all that worried about it.

Absolutely. When's the last time UGA had a guy transfer out to avoid a weed suspension?

Deangelo Gibbs transferred out a few years ago with no official reason but the rumor was he needed to get some help for a drug issue but it didn't sound like weed was the main culprit.

I was only asking because of this and the Gilbert rumor. I feel like other schools just hide this sort of stuff better. Like they use "playing time" or "medical reasons" instead just to save face on both ends.

We're talking college kids so all three is a strong bet

For the longest time, UGA and UK had the strictest policy school wide for it. I want to say a first time offense was 30% of the season. That's been 5-10 years ago though so I'm sure things have changed.

I don't recall LSU ever being specific about why they're suspended. It just the "you can guess why" from the radio guys and "insiders" on social media.

To be fair those are the punishments, which isn't the only aspect of it. Seems like the real issue is that we test way too much.

You feel that way because you smoke. It's an illegal drug. I wish pain pills were legal, but they're not. Players should be disciplined for that too if they fail a test for it just like any other illegal activity.

No, I feel that way because of the reality. The negative effects/consequences, especially the severe ones are all the result of terrible laws and based on public perception, not because of the actual "drug".

And yet here is is in 2021, it's common knowledge that the perception was created for logging industry, then used further for political reasons in the 70s-90s, and STILL people cling to this perception.

The policies are literally fricking peoples lives up.

Driving while high and things like that are another story, but it's time people start to recognize and point out that the policies cause a hell of a lot more damage to not only the person, but society as a whole than it helps.

I also feel this way about other drugs that I absolutely hate. I wish making them illegal and all that fixed the problem, but it doesn't. It just makes people worse off and the arguements against it are based on lies.

Funny enough, these days it's the pharma companies that are behind keeping it illegal. In Arizona a few years ago they had a vote for recreational(medical already legal). It did not pass. But it was widely known due to public records that the pharma industry was spending millions of dollars against it because it will take business away from them.

That's the country we live in, and yet we just say - oh well that's fine. It's his fault for smoking. The reason why he's being punished, well that doesn't matter. He knew the consequences.

It's dumb.

Okay, would you rather me say it's common knowledge among the LSU football players that used to smoke weed in my apartment? Because I can say that too.

I'll admit, I worded it incorrectly.

LSU's policy is not the worst. It is enforced at a higher level than every other school in the conference.

the policy is

1st test - 1 game
2nd rest - 3 games
3rd test - 6 games
4th test - season

The problem LSU has is they test at a much higher rate than every other school in the SEC. They test guys the night before games for no reason other than to catch them. This isn't a secret. It's talked about among the players openly. The testing policy is extremely out of date.

This, we punish our players for things players easily get away with at many other SEC schools because for whatever reason we feel the need for this archaic weed policy to be around in 2021 that is completely separate from the SEC/NCAA policies.

Or to verify that they are clean. I mean, why else administer a test?

Most schools administer tests very sparingly to cooperate with NCAA guidelines... because the NCAA tests one time per year.

No one cares about weed. It's a dumb thing to test for.

What is the rate the other SEC schools test? Just curious if this is an assumption that LSU test at a higher rate.

I don't know the exact rate. I'm just relaying the information players have told me. LSU is known for testing more than other schools in the conference.

So more of an assumption. Maybe, LSU is just more public with information about drug test fails.
