Actually, true story, last night as I walked into the bar, there was a guy in Tennessee hat, waiting to watch the UK/UT game, and I realized...I used to hate Tennessee. We used to play every year in football. Now it's just neutral. They're way over in the east, and we border their state, but they might as well be in a different conference.

I think that's what got me thinking about it, honestly.

I want to merge with the big 12, cull a few teams, then align the orginal 10 SEC teams to one division. Winner plays the other division at the sugar bowl for the title.

This is a tough one. I really do think Missouri and A&M are great additions to the conference. It would be nice to play East division teams more then once a decade though.

OK, yes, I will grant you... the A&M Red arse Pullout thing is very disturbing but we lived with A&M for decades. We are used to the weirdness.

I'm not even naming names or trying to make the new guys feel bad. I'm pretty kind to both teams in my posting.

I'm just saying the conference is:

Too big to feel like a normal conference.

Too oversold and commercialized.

Should have used an alter to make this topic
Coming from an Arkansas fan is entertaining....
No matter what you think
You are an outsider as well.

It isn't about insiders or outsiders. It's about being in a really large, crowded room, listening to constant sales pitches, versus a smaller, less crowded room, watching sports.

Run with it...
It takes away the troll coming from an Arkansas Fan
Mainly because you and S Carolina are the ones who created this

It isn't a troll post at all. I am good at those, but this is not one. Don't play yourself.

He's not talking about being exclusive of the "new" guys. He's talking about the expansion putting the number of teams just a tad too much. This also coincides with the SECN and a new branding launch that's made the SEC into it's own corporation.

I don't mind 14 teams. I think that would be fine if things felt as organic as they were pre-expansion. Our enthusiasm for the SEC's tremendous stranglehold on football and baseball aroise with natural passion, and now sports networks are selling us back our own eagerness that we invented. They've made us a slogan or catchphrase.

Not going to point any fingers....
But some schools have sold out to ESPN.
Reason why NC State wasn't the 14th and Mizzou was.

I know this is difficult for you because you're simple, but sometimes people like to engage in actual conversation about sports occasionally.

The current climate is unique to the 2010s. Us and South Carolina may have been responsible for some weird climate that I was too young to remember in the 90s, but not this one. Honestly, I don't even think Missouri and A&M are responsible for it, just garden variety corporate greed and a commercial take-over of something that was once borne of passion.

The SEC made the deal with ESPN.
It wasn't a hostile takeover.

The powers in the conference like Alabama made the deal.

But like I said....
The original expansion was similar in a way.
The SEC wanted a Championship game.
Truthfully wanted to bring in different schools than what they got.
But the expansion of 1990 was because the SEC wanted more power and revenue.

It hasn't affected my interest. Its actually increased it. I'm sitting here watching Arkansas play E.Illinois play a baseball game. That never would have happened before expansion and the SECN.

I think your feelings have more to do with Arkansas recent slide in football.

Now I get your argument about the corporatization of the SEC but really that was bound to happen in this day and age. It's happening everywhere not just sports and not just the SEC

So, you want to kick out a school(Miss State) that has more SEC Championship Trophies in the Big 3 Sports(28-23) than your said school(Georgia). Idiot.

I could definitely do without Arkansas and Missouri in the conference

No. But sucking in quite a few years made me not watch other teams quite as hard. Watched or been at every Gator game for over 20 years. But my interest in other programs lessens when UF isn't good. Mainly because the games don't effect UF.

I would prefer the bare minimum to meet the championship game requirement, and one more cross-divisional game. It does seem oversaturated at this point, and takes away from some more traditional rivalries within the conference.

All of that to say: no. I'm still watching just as often and just as much. Just have my "druthers"...

I’m a fan of the pre-1992 expansion SEC, and I think that lineup of teams would thrive as a conference.
