Sounds like both. Sounds like he didn’t want to be there anymore because of O and then O and Alleva decided not to retain him for next year.

He continued the tradition of avg to below avg offense. But they shifted like a MF.

LSU's Total O
2014 - 80th
2015 - 39th
2016 - 59th
2017 - 53rd

Scoring O
2014 - 76th
2015 - 43rd
2016 - 68th
2017 - 70th

LSU paid him ~1.9 M last year (with Pitt buyout) and now looks to be on the hook for another 1.2 M (40%). Over 3 M for one average year of work. Impressive money management there, LSU. It's not like you can burn it like we do.

Edit:

Per a 247 the remaining would be fully guaranteed. So that is damn near 5 M spent for one year of Canada.
quote:

With LSU and Canada likely going in separate directions after Jan. 1, the school would owe Canada roughly $3 million, which would be paid in monthly installments through 2020. If Canada is hired for another job, the amount would then be offset by his earnings from a new contract.

It's looking more and more like he wanted out a while back then half-assed his way to getting fired.
