He got flagged for hitting a defenseless WR ...the hit was unnecessary in my opinion. He had time to pull up. So I agree with the flag but not suspension however

this. Others disagree and I think it's close but I do think he had time to pull out of that hit. But per the rules that isn't targeting either way.

Btw, an easy way to define targeting on a play like this is if the receiver had caught the ball, would it still have been a penalty. If not, then it clearly isn't targeting.

Everett didn't even act like he was trying to wrap up,

Defenders are just going to have to wrap up to protect themselves from this call. Knock the shite out of them every chance you get just don't forget to use your arms and form them up.

You are right, the play wasnt over but the WR was not going to catch the ball and Everett wanted the hit instead of the pick.

In slow motion, its 2.0 seconds between the tip and the hit.

I imagine in full speed it was less than 0.4 seconds. Good luck in making that kind of decision in 0.4 seconds.

He takes 3 FULL steps after the ball is tipped..he had plenty time to pull up. Why not go after the ball? He wanted the hit plain and simple. I dont agree with the suspension but he deserved the flag on that play

This is BS!

Go back and look at your own replay. He covered 5 yds at least after the ball sailed through the receivers hands. This was the problem - not the hit itself. There was no reason to hit the guy. The days of DB's sending a message are over. Get used to it. That hit would have cost him $25G in the NFL.

Had the receiver caught the ball or had the defender met at ball contact it would not have been a penalty IMHO.

Don't take my comments such that I support the suspension rule.

The ball had been tipped up. Since he can't go after the ball (his momentum was going the opposite direction), it was clearly his job to make sure the receiver couldn't catch his own tipped ball.
