I can't stand Delany, but I did use this argument in 2006 and I wasn't a fan of the LSU/Bama rematch when it initially came out, so I'm not going to be too critical of the guy here.

Ohio State big stage flops are the justifiable reason Wisconsin was undervalued in the polls.
The B1G needs to start winning Bowls games before they will be taken seriously.
No one voting in the polls took the then 8-1 Penn State serious after watching the Bama game

Consider this:
1. Georgia wins the SEC East with 2 losses
a. Blown out by Bama
b. Close loss to the Cocks
2. Bama loses to LSU in a triple overtime game
a. But destroyed Georgia (the SEC East Champ)
3. LSU goes undefeated in the SEC West
a. But they lose an overtime game to Georgia in the SEC Championship
All three teams are ranked inside of the top 7. SEC champion Georgia has 2 losses, SEC West champion LSU has 1 loss, and Bama (who destoyed Georgia) has 1 loss.
According to Delaney, Georgia (by default of being conference champion) would go to the playoffs, but LSU and Bama would not, when they could possibly be better than Georgia???
And perhaps, a weak PAC-12 or Big10 champion would have the chance to play for the BCSNC when they are possibly not even a top 5 team???
Yeah, thats a very BRIGHT proposal. And you people question the intelligence of the folks in the south?

This underscores why Delaney wants change. Not a single conference has beaten the SEC in the CG. It took 2 SEC teams playing for the SEC to lose in it. The only way another team can win it, is for there not to be an SEC team in it.

no matter what your playoff system is you really can't do anything that makes it perfect when the "better" team insists on losing games they should have won.
that went for great teams like Miami in 2000, Florida in 2001, Miami in 2002, LSU and USC in 2003, USC and LSU in 2006, UGA in 2007...
Those teams lost games they probably should have won - it cost them. That's the way in can go in sports... and that element of finality and risk makes sports better and more interesting anyway.

It's not whether or not those teams lost or won....it's putting the best teams in the so-called "playoffs".....
That is what we're discussing right??? If LSU doesn't win in the playoffs, then case closed on whether or not you were the best team.
But, it's border insane if a 1-loss LSU or Bama or USC team that barely lost the conference championship game in overtime (after dominating everyone else on their schedule) doesn't get a chance to go to the playoffs.
I'm sorry, I'm having a hard time understanding that one.

If you only took Conference champs last year the 4 team playoff would have had the #1, #3, #5 & #10 ranked teams... that woulda been bullshite...
DEC 4th, 2011 BCS rankings...
1 LSU...SEC champ
2 Alabama
3 Oklahoma State...Big12 champ
4 Stanford
5 Oregon...Pac12 champ
6 Arkansas
7 Boise State
8 Kansas State
9 South Carolina
10 Wisconsin... Big10,11,12, champ

I would rather see a third ranked Boise get a chance than have Ohio State sneak in under the Delany loophole and get their brains kicked in again !

Especially when they are possibly (and maybe even obviously) better than a "conference champion" who does.

Exactly. The BCS shouldn't be tampered with. I don't like the idea of playoffs, or it expanding into anything larger. Very rarely does the #3 team have a legit argument to be there. Change will give teams possible ranked out of the top 10 a chance to play for a NC over teams that are without question, better than them.

A four team playoff would be fine, but I just think it wouldn't take long for it to become an 8 team playoff and then a 16 team playoff. I love the regular season in college football and I think the BCS gets it right more often than not.

why? they could have just as easily shite the bed when the playoffs started - the stakes and results would be the same

take 2010. going into the bowl games, michigan state was ranked 7 in the country and wisonsin was 4. they were co big 10 champions, and its conceivable that michican state could have been voted one higher to 6. Michigan state played bama in the bowl game and got completely humiliated, to the point where saban was yelling at the msu D for letting bama score when he was just trying to run out the clock. By delaney's logic, msu was the better team that should have been in the playoff, when clearly bama was light years ahead of msu, and they finished like 4th in the sec. it doesnt make any sense. just take the top 4 teams in the BCS rankings at the end of the season, regardless of anything else, and let them duke it out. The BCS is actually pretty good at picking out the best teams, and they are sure to get the best 2 at least, in the top 4. Delaney just realizes that the SEC is much more likely to have 2 teams in the top 4 year in and out than the big 10 is to have 1.

i guess bama would have still gotten in last year, as it would have been #1 LSU SEC champ, #3 Oklahoma St big 12 champ, # 5 Oregon PAC 12 Champ, and then Bama as the highest ranked team, since there were no other conference champs in the top 6. Still, its a stupid idea
