Our path to victory in a regional is very narrow

- Fay gives us 6 solid innings on night 1 vs a #4 seed and we don't have to use Ozmer or Meyers
- Quick dominates a #2/3 seed on night 2, Oz/Meyers relieve and we win
- Pray that Adams isn't terrible in game 1 of the winners bracket and we can survive

our pitching past Skenes was so sketchy entering the 2023 NCAAT. Our #2, Floyd, had an ERA around 6 in SEC play, and not single bullpen arm had an ERA below 5. Thatcher Hurd's ERA was like 13 in SEC play. Ackenshausen's was around 9. Guys just have to step up when the tournament starts, and they did for us when it mattered despite forcing our offense to put up 10 runs a game all season

The difference is your guys who hadn't stepped up mostly had significant arm talent. There was something there to be tapped if they could get things lined up. Floyd and Hurd, when right, had very good stuff.

Our pen is a bunch of mid-major (from outside the South) arms who have zero swing and miss in their arsenal. There isn't really any hope for all but about 4 of them. Blackwood is not a guy who is going to "get hot". He's just not an SEC caliber arm.

Any reason for this?

Poorly worded, I meant we have guys that are the equivalent of mid major arms from the Missouri Valley or NEC, not mid major guys from the Sun Belt or Conference USA (leagues with a bunch of good arms).

We don't bring guys out of the pen that are of the same physical quality as the top 1/3 programs in the league. LSU, Georgia, Tennessee, etc have middle inning/long relievers who are generally young and haven't quite figured out how to pitch yet, but they mostly have electric arms. We just don't have dudes like that. My guess is a big part of it is NIL - we just don't have the money to spend that far down the line and so we end up with bargain bin guys that we hope click. Sometimes we hit on them (Ozmer) but most of the time we don't. And that shows up the most in the bullpen.

We've actually probably had our most success in the portal with 5th year guys from the Ivy League, so maybe we ought to hit it more often

I like Burke but he just fangirls way to much when he does a Tennessee game.

Tends to happen when there are 20+ runs and 10+ pitching changes.
