It's not fake or suspect unless you don't know much about Mormons. Until fairly recently mainline Mormonism taught that black people bore the mark and curse of Cain. That softened to "righteous black people can become white," in 60s and 70s and is still incredibly racist. Black people were banned from Mormon Priesthood and the temple. And there's far more...
IOW, it was standard church teaching and theology to be a racist twat until 1978. This has softened over the years but Mormons have a long history with this. It's nuts to think that everything has magically changed amongst the general public, especially when more conservative Mormons have not changed on this.
Take Staley to task for begging out of the series when BYU addressed things pretty well but questioning the validity of the incident is idiotic given that mormons used to believe in the inferiority of black people as a matter of Religion!

BYU doesn't dispute it. Several witnessed it. That is by definition substantiated.

How is he the nut for wanting proof of a very serious offense? In America, that’s how things work for now. You can’t just assume it happened because Mormons were racist once upon a time.

And why is that? Maybe because there’s a nation wide commercial campaign to attack them including teams canceling games before any real evidence comes out? No it couldn’t be that because that’s never happened and is impossible.
