Good thing they fired mike Leachs coaching staff and ditched the air raid last year, paying off BIGTIME

From 2012 when A&M and Missouri joined the the SEC through 2022, Mississippi State was 6th in the SEC in wins. Ahead of OM, Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, Missouri, and Vandy. More wins than Texas, too.

Even adding in a down 2023, still ahead of most of them.

The basic problem with this article is that no one kicked anyone out of any conference. That’s a pretty big step. Oregon State and WSU didn’t get invited to join a conference.

MSU and Vandy are charter members, and they cannot be kicked out. That would mean the other schools would have to leave and form a new entity and lose a tremendous amount in branding, or pay them ridiculous sums to give up their seat at the table. If MSU and Vandy get $50M per year for being here, imagine what it would cost in a divorce.

Last May, Iowa State athletic Jamie Pollard warned of the future cannibalization of smaller college football programs and that [...] the SEC could soon discard the bottom programs.

For Mississippi State's relatively smaller fan base, these are tumultuous and worrisome times. Hail State is in a battle for its very survival.

Mississippi State simply can’t compete on an NIL level with almost all SEC schools.

Athletic Director Zac Selmon and his football program need a miracle.

With SEC TV money all things are possible. The Pac-12 imploded over night because of a knee-jerk reaction to TV money and NIL. Look at FSU and Clemson trying their best Houdini out of the ACC.

Miss State is already doing business in the promised land.

There wasn't any intel on financial problems or NIL problems or anything in the article.

Just seemed like one dork spouting off a bunch of personal opinions on his computer with some Mississippi State football history tossed in.

Wins much less important than cash.

A&M will be just fine.

I said long ago the NIL and Portal would ruin college sports and it will reduce it to a few very successful programs and then the rest. Now add the lawsuit settlement and it might put some schools at reducing their number of sports all together. I used to be obsessed with the start of football season but I have very little interest and couldn't tell you the names 10 MSU players. Why bother with names, they'll transfer next year anyway? Plus, the lazy Arnette hire pushed us back 5 years. Not a big Lemonis fan in baseball and baseball was my #1. I'll still watch if I am in front of a tv and won't be making time for when there are other things to do like I once did.

I think Rebel fans posting this is about like whistling past the graveyard. Kiffin has Ole Miss going right now, but fundamentally, there's not much difference between these two programs with regard to what they have to offer in today's competitive environment.

Nonetheless, I hope that logic prevails and people stop think that the way to make more money in college sports is to have fewer schools competing at the top level. Sports are different from other businesses, where the goal is to drive up market share by eliminating competitors. In sports, its the competition that is the product. Having that competition reduced to a fight between 30 or so schools does not improve the product; it actually hurts the product.

The great thing about college football is that every hidden corner of the country pretty much gets a team to root for that is within driving distance. If you drop it down to just 25-30 teams, then the whole thing that makes college football great will be gone.

These are outright championships, you idiot. Even your 1 is an outright championship. And they all, for both programs, predate the Atlanta game.

Historically State has always done more with less. How this plays out in the future is yet to be seen. But if this turns into a mini NFL with about 25 colleges playing big time football and the rest being treated like crap, that will be unfortunate. And people like me (a State fan & alum) will have plenty of other entertainment options in the future just like we do now.

I think he is just trying to take a dig at State, not realizing that he is also taking a dig at Ole Miss.

What a lot of our fans don't realize is that when it comes to the SEC and college football in general, MSU and Ole Miss are pretty tight partners, almost always voting together on issues.
