Always thought he did a great job at State, but after that LSU loss...yikes.

He's been like that since he was at State. Not sure why anyone should be surprised by this. Dude is a sore loser and never admits to his own blame when he loses.
I lost all respect for him when he accused Derrick Brown of a dirty hit on Trask in the halftime interview for AU-FL last year.
Brown was literally getting pulled down by the O-lineman and Trask ended up coming back into the game. Mullen is the biggest vagina of a head coach.

It shouldn’t surprise me but I couldn’t believe he actually came out and gave that scout team quote. Especially after catching so much shite for his LSU post game comments. It’s wild how tone deaf he is

Quick name the last 5 white guys to be named All-SEC at WR.
How far did you have to go back?

Dan Mullen is a great coach from Feb to September. During the season, he’s a great coach Sunday through Friday.
Mullen is great at player development on offense. His reputation for getting most out of a quarterback is well earned. His skill players are usually technically sound. He usually comes into games with a great plan on offense. His teams are typically well prepared to attack what a defense has put on tape. I’d say that his OLs have been consistently been average to bad and that is low-key one of the first areas where recruiting deficiencies shows up.
Mullen is a mediocre recruiter. Despite having as stable of a program as there ever had been in Starkville, he never significantly improved their recruiting prowess. He didn’t really put a significant dent in Alabama and LSU’s ability to poach top recruits in the state. At Florida, he’s consistently pulling 9/10th ranked classes but in the SEC that still means you’re a bit behind Alabama, Georgia, LSU, and sometimes Auburn.
Did Florida hire a better coach when they canned McElwain for Mullen? Sure. I don’t think McElwain was a fit for the SEC in a head coach role. I think he’ll eventually rehab his perception and end up in a Pac-12 job where he’ll flourish. But I digress, I don’t think Florida hired the restoration of the 2005-2010 Urban Meyer program.
They brought back the schemes but not the same relentlessness in recruiting. Also, Mullen’s game feel and management is among the worst of coaches who are as established as him. Mullen has had several games where his teams were down 2 scores with 5 minutes left and he essentially dink n’ dunk’d down the field and did the opponent’s job of taking the air out of the ball for them.
So where should Florida go from here? I think they should fire Grantham and hire Charlie Strong. Strong has a better recruiting reputation and prior success with Florida. All the other stuff is about Mullen growing up and not much Florida can do about that from an institutional level.

Lost by 35 points to a big 12 team last night. After the arse whipping he called all of his recruits the scout team. Dan Mullen is a douche canoe that will never win a damn thing. Macs QB and the Portal gave him 29 wins. Now we see the shite show that is a Dan Mullen program
But...but.. he beat Georgia.

Why don't people realize that players get better from year to year generally? Its not like 2020 fresh are taking the field for UF in 21.
EDIT: you've made me defend UF and Mullen (kinda)...Frick you.

Look I’m white so I’m all for white skill players but when your best is white and not Christian McCaffrey you’re in trouble. You can count the white skill guys that have won all conference in this league the last 10 years on 1 hand. That’s just factual, and screams terrible recruiting. Nothing new for Mullen.

If I’ve learned anything being a UF fan, development is not linear. This isn’t Madden sometimes returning just means you suck. They don’t get better unless they work. We don’t seem to work very hard.

In Mullen's defense, there isn't a coach in America who can recruit in Starkville.

That's who Mullen is. He is a major douchebag who takes no responsobility for anything. He just downplays stuff and acts like a teenager. And he has been getting less mature at UF. Not a good combo.

Mullen is a good OC whose HC career is highlighted by surpassing the very low expectations at a perennial cellar dwellar in the SEC.
That's it.
Mullen was notorious for scheduling 4 rent a win non conference games at state every year so they were 2 games away from bowling right out of the gate every year. He seemed like a better coach that he was but his record vs ranked opponents was horrendous
And then add his personality on top of that

That is some personality. More like a nerdy pimple faced 14 year old

Glorious Melt.
In all seriousness though...as an SEC fan I was rooting for UF. LSU made OU look like a JV team last year. unfortunately, this year it was the other way around with the Gators.

Mullen's personality is much worse than his coaching. Florida has finished #6 / #7 each of the last two years and played in the SEC Championship Game this year, but he is one of the least self-aware coaches out there. He is a douche like McElwain was, but McElwain had completely pathetic offenses and never even finished inside the top 10 once at UF.
However, Mullen's lack of accountability won't lead to elite results like UF is looking for and he usually blows a game that he should win (Mizzou in his first year, LSU this year,etc.). I thought maybe he would mature some at UF, but he is taking it in the opposite direction.
