I really don’t understand how this board of all places can’t appreciate his commitment to the bit. Personally, I love seeing him still running with it like this.

Good grief. Just say the player made a poor and selfish decision that doesn't meet the standard expected of a starter and leader on the team. These excuses only convey to the players that Mullen has no standard.

As much as people give Saban grief when he appears to throw players under the bus in press conferences, Mullen's excuses are the opposite of that approach. I'd rather have the truth spoken even if it looks harsh.

Why is he so reluctant to instill discipline... it's not that hard. Something along the lines of "If you get mad on a critical down, don't taunt or throw a player's shoe. It's not worth the penalty yardage that would end up costing us the game."

I agree with Mullen. As long as it was a "football move," that excuses everything. Ray Rice made a "football move" on his girlfriend in that elevator, but he did not utilize this perfect defense.
