False.. He could leave and draw a check just like most every other fired coach in the SEC .

I was talking about Hud. If he's picked up by a big time school this year the earliest he's back on the market would be 2017

I'm on the Hud bandwagon with y'all, I think he's a great coach. That's why I'm hoping y'all win 5-6 games this year and possibly miss out on him

If it weren't for Hud I'm almost convinced the fanbase would be in denial about Mullen.
Including me probably

I want State to beat Arkansas and someone else (obviously not OM)... Stricklin cant fire Mullen if he goes 6-6 and takes them to another bowl game... The last thing OM needs is Hudspeth back in Starkville.

They can't fire him after going 5-7 either IMO. He'd get one more year

Disagree. I think a lot of the Fire Mullen hype is overrated. The bottom line is the guy has been more successful at MSU winning % wise than just about every coach they've had for the last 50 years. If Mullen leaves soon, it will be on his own. Again, the national media largely thinks Mullen is doing a great job at a bad place.

Yeah you just agreed with me. I don't think Dan gets fired

Well I disagree with the one more year. 2 5-7 seasons might not be enough.

One more year at the least. If he goes 5-7 this year he will have to go 5-7 or better next year to keep his job

Eh, in this scenario I think he still has to make a bowl next year considering our schedule basically giftwraps one to us.
Highly, highly unlikely he gets fired after this season, though. The best shot we got is 4-8 and getting blown out in the Egg Bowl again.

5-7, 75% chance that he's gone. Buyout funding is already in place. Never thought I'd live to see the day when the Cigar Boys were the progressive faction among our fanbase, but that day has arrived. Whether it's rooted in hatred for Mullen or fear of missing on Hudspeth, I'll never know...

I don't see how either of you are so adamant either way.

Here's the thing Bundy,
Mullen has lost his passion and intensity. Coaching our school requires that and more for us to be able to recruit, win, and be sucessful because of our situation. What's our situation? We aren't a huge school, Starkville isn't a huge city full of wonderful things and a big spotlight, MSU doesn't have hundreds of thousands of alumni to pour money into the program like for instance TAMU, BUT we are in the SEC where a player can have a better chance to showcase his talent as we get plenty of TV time these days. The head coach is a big determining factor in a situation like ours because he is the main attraction outside of the fact that we are SEC.
So that takes me back to the point that Dan Mullen has lost all of his passion and intensity. There are stark differences in his deminiour (sp?)
Hudspeth is inspirational and has the youth and vigor to bring player in around him. He has a good relationship with high school coaches in MS and LA. The dude gets in the weight room even to motivate players there. He's awesome. End of story
We have to strike while the iron is hot, not after our program is destroyed completely again.

While I think y'all's obsession with Hudspeth is annoying as frick, you do have a point here, Taxman.
Mullen does seem to not give a shite anymore. I don't know if he does or not, but it certainly looks like he doesn't. What State needs is a guy like Hud whose ties to the school will ensure that he works hard.
