No. You can call us whatever you want. The uniforms, The players, The grove, ect. mean more than any words could ever describe.

You wanna calls us the bears? Do it. Mississippi? Old Mrs, Old Piss?
Do it till you fall out of your chair laughing.

Makes it easier for me to decide who to determine whose opinion is actually worth something when I decide to have a somewhat serious conversation on this board.

am perfectly fine with us being referred to as that...overjoyed even. Alabama is the Crimson Tide, but they have a mascot that is an elephant. They take no offense to being called Crimson Tide, but to call them by their mascot name is kind of goofy. I've also never heard the Buckeyes get called Brutus officially.

he gets it!

But really, he doesn't understand. Not that we aren't the black bears, but that the joke is about as funny as George Lopez.

Maybe because you no longer have a Rebel as a mascot. Sorry, but the new bear is one of the lamest damn things I have seen lately. My daughter asked why they made y'all change and I really didn't have a good answer for her. I told her that some people thought that the old mascot was racist or at least "insensitive". She said, "well, that's just stupid!"

Looks like I raised her right.

Mullen taking little jabs at ole miss expense. Hasn't this been his mo since he got there? Best way to shut him up is beat him. Seems like teams in the west have been pretty good at that.

So it does bother you. Understand. FWIW, they are the Rebels to me. Always will be. I am pretty sick at the administration buckling in to political correctness and coming up with a f'king black bear as a mascot.

It just invites ridicule from some people.

Well it's better than calling you all the white bears cuz we know you distance from anything that is remotely associated with that.

I like it. He is making us hate state more when it comes to this the egg bowl and it is getting both teams fired up...I expect a very heated game this weekend

All we need to do is beat their arse to remind them of their position. I hate it when State gets so uppity.

Heddy Teddy Bears,
Just wait, U Miss has given up so much ground on tradition, they have none left on which to stand.
In just a few years, "rebels" will be gone too.

For the life of me, I can not remember fans from a school being incensed when they are referred to by a name they adopted. Crazy stuff right there.

Okay for all of you people who think you know something you don't. We got a new mascot that is a black bear. We are still the REBELS and even named the black bear Rebel. When we play on CBS, ESPN, CSS it says the Ole Miss Rebels. We are not the Black Bears that just happen to be our mascot. Dan Mullen tried to make a joke that was about as cleaver as the average TD poster and it was unprofessional and not funny.

Thats all im going to say.

I have lots of Ole Miss friends. My wife has several degrees from there. So, for my own edification, just exactly when and in what context can I use the term "Black Bears" or is it just for internal use only?

The term Black Bears is not ever in use. Our mascot named Rebel just happens to be a Black Bear. That is the only time it is refered too.

Now I'm confused... I thought your new mascot was "The Rebel Black Bear", not "Rebel, the Black Bear"... as shown on ESPN and USAToday???
