That pitch #6 looks to be a borderline pitch....could go either way, and an argument can be made for either call. In this case, the call went against Arkansas' way.....
You're right in that it could go either way, but it could only be correctly called a strike. A pitch right down the middle could be called a ball, but that doesn't mean it should have been called a ball.

No.
To be more clear, Pitch #6 is represented to be as much outside of the depicted strike box - in other words, a ball - as it is represented to be inside. So when I say that an argument can be made either way, I mean that the pitch is as much a legitimate ball as it is a legitimate strike.
The Ump does not have that yellow box outline floating above home plate for him to use as a reference. There were other more flagrant examples of bad calls by that Umpire than the one above...that one can be readily attributed to a 50/50 call that had to go one way, and it just went an opposite way of the Hogs...

The ball only has to touch the strike zone as it passes home plate for it to be a strike. Ball #6 is a strike according to the rules, but I agree an ump could call it a ball b/c he doesn't have the floating box. The thing is, he called strikes for USC that were not in the strike zone at all, so it's not like he had a consistently tight strike zone - it fluctuated depending on which team was pitching.

Pitch 1 caught less of the plate than pitch 6, but he called it a strike. He had no problem calling it when it was just strike 1.

It is a lot easier to see the higher pitch cross part of the zone than the low pitch.

I like how you (and most other Arky fans here) are totally dismissing the fact that the umpire squeezed Colby Holmes early in the game as well, which played a part in his poor performance. As well as a clear blown call at home on Marzilli's slide that should have made the score 4-2. Both teams were stung by the terrible performance of the umpire, not just Arkansas.....

Inning should have been over before that.

Yeah, but it cost Arkansas the game and not USC.

I like how you (and most other USC fans here) are totally dismissing the fact that this same guy has done this to Arkansas before. How do you explain that?

This would have been a solid bump before we play them in the season. Heads in the right place, timing is off, 6/10.

Speaking of "exclusives" How long is the list of Championship Game Walk Off Home Runs in Omaha? Is one a good number?
