Frank Broyles was pretty much fired by ABC for waiting to the end of the game to report that Bo Jackson had broken ribs against Bama. Pat Dye asked him to keep it quiet.

I said the exact same thing when I saw it.

"Why the frick did he call that play". Gus should not let him back to practice

That is to say, if they had lined up and Alabama hadn't even thought about a jump pass, and Gary had called out the play, and then Alabama had jumped offsides and they retried the play, could the guy watching the game on TV have buzzed down to the coaches before the retry and tell them to watch out for the jump pass?

I think this is reaching a bit. Barring a timeout I highly doubt there would be enough time for the guy watching the broadcast (which is delayed a bit as well) to call down the the sidelines, point out the play, and then relay that info to the play-caller.

CBS has carried Ala/LSU games for many years in a row.

Gary Danielson has done the color for the game for many years in a row.

Alabama has beaten LSU like a rented mule for many years in a row.

LSU fans can't handle all that, and have a hard on for any and everything, AND everybody that they perceive to be a part of their embarrassment.

Gary ends up in their crosshair.

Maybe with some LSU fans, but not me. I think Gary is very good at what he does. Yes, he has his flaws. But he is into the game and knows his stuff. Some of his competitors on other networks seem like they're half-arse paying attention, only speak in bland cliches and don't really offer any unique insight. You don't have to worry about that with Gary.

You're one of a small group. Danielson has made numerous calls before they happened, and one reason that he does is because he does his "homework" better than any of the others, PLUS he's got an excellent relationship with most of the coaches and staffs because he's been around a long time and has worked with them so much. I'm not in love with his "midwesterner's" personality, but I can recognize expertise when I see it.

He's also not a color guy.

Romo needs to hear this

Romo is doing what he's doing based on what he's seeing from the defense and what most QBs will audible to seeing that. It's interesting that he can see it so quickly, but he's not calling out a surprise play you wouldn't expect. Don't really see where he's giving away secrets.

Why are they practicing gadget plays like that while the media is there watching? Am I missing something?

it. He is a commentator after all. It is literally his job.

Not if the only reason he knows is because he was allowed to watch a closed practice...

Didn't sound like a closed practice if members of the media are there to observe.

Not when he noticed it, because he was allowed at a CLOSED practice.

Shoulda read the whole thread...exactly. CBS im sure gets special access to what they want. I highly doubt all of the media was there, because Gus doesnt allow it. Especially when installing plays like this

It is debatable, however, how much of what he sees in practice that he should report on.
