Yeah you can probably pick out several bad in game decisions that every coach has made.

Paul was to LSU baseball what some fans want to claim Miles was to football, yet so many of those people love Paul and hate Miles.

I personally like both of them and think they were both pretty good coaches.

That he largely owes to Les Miles for recruiting Jones and Mitchell. Without those Manieri has none.

They’re both Louisiana kids who were always going to LSU. Chad Jones making it to LSU had more to do with his asking price in the MLB draft out of high school.

But if you want to play this game, Jay Johnson doesn’t win a title in 2023 without the core of players left to him by Mainieri

Also, Chad Jones had a very small role on that 2009 team. He left for spring football for half the season and then only pitched like 7 total innings that year. That team was also stacked throughout the roster. The last thing I'm going to do is credit Les Miles for that baseball team being good. But tou should prob thank Paul Mainieri for convincing Les Miles to allow Jared Mitchell to skip spring football.

But overall, what he inherited in 2007 was a complete disaster, and he built that up to a CWS appearance (and 26 game win streak) his 2nd season and a national title his third. Just because he had his faults doesn't mean you need to denigrate what he did accomplish.

I hate that he went there. He should have stayed retired and had a respectable legacy. Instead hes decided to go obliterate any respect or legacy by making usc even worse than they were.

The natives are pissed at USC
he will never be accepted by our fan base - he could win Omaha this June and we would still want him gone before the trophy made it back to Columbia -

Mayberry Rayberry pulled a rogue ego hire as his parting move before being forced into fundraising while an actual Athletic Director was hired -

I'd fire him on principle alone for having UA create a 'dodgers' style uniform for USC in PM's first fricking season - when the program has worn NY Yankee grays on the road and white with black pins at home since forever as a tribute to Bobby Richardson - who built this damn thing into what it has been since 1970 -

nobody here at Carolina gives a damn Paul Manure knew Tommy Lasorda -

and yes it was laughable his comments about playing 18 innings on opening day and players being tired the next day - pretty sure NKY players played those same 18 innings and then 9 the next too -

I'll never understand why people on here hate Mainieri as much as they do. He was a good coach. If you are expecting everyone to be Jay Johnson, idk what to tell you

Mainieri was really good leading up to his first championship when he had that fire in his belly. After that, he basically coasted. He was still good but never great. Thankfully, Jay seems to have kept his fire, at least to this point. Doubtful he ever passes Skip but I think that is his goal, and it’s a good one to have.

God and myself love Skip. I absolutely hope Jay demolishes Skip’s record.

Its not insane that we chose to hire him. It is right in line with everything else Ray Tanner did in his run as AD. PM is a complete disaster and already despised by 99 percent of the fan base.
