but the idea that Lane "abandoned" Ole miss is a direct lie.
You can change “abandoned” for any word that makes you feel like it’s less loaded. He left. He chose another school. He is no longer their coach.

The way I see it the whole calendar is set up around spring training. Get early enrollment on campus or transfers there for spring practice.
Just kill that, easy peasy. Want to transfer, change the window to Feb-April and go ahead. Want to enroll and start classes at a school, nobody is stopping you. But no scholarship before summer classes or spring training.
But that's exactly what I was trying to say. None of that would fix that LSU would've wanted to hire Lane Kiffin before the playoff and Ole Miss wasn't gonna let him coach while being LSU's new head coach. That wouldn't be a calendar problem. That's a "we need coaching hiring and firing windows". It's just strange to say you have a calendar problem when there is no calendar dates for the thing that is the biggest problem.
Staples said and I agree, LSU would not have wanted to take Lane's word that he would come after Ole Miss was done with the playoff. What if he wins it? They wouldn't have wanted to trust he wouldn't change his mind. So it had to be public that he accepted the job and Ole Miss couldn't let him coach under those circumstances. It's just fariy tale land to believe that would have been a great outcome if Ole Miss had allowed it. Would've been a complete **** show.

" The mere appearance of it would be an embarrassment to Ole Miss."
That is also the way I see it. Ole Miss was about to be cucked by LSU's new love. There is too much pride in that institution and with that group to allow that to happen. Also, the players have lost all sentiment from me in these issues. They brought this upon themselves with the NIL suit and the NCAA had no balls nor teeth to prevent it. Now they are just free agents and guns for hire with no allegiance to the schools. the only ones I feel different about are the service academies.
I always liked Lane, and thought he had matured. If this was about getting a national championship he was never any closer than he was last week, sitting in Oxford, with his team already in the CFP with a home game. Instead he was fed a line of crap about LSU being a better chance, and at one time that might have been true, but not in today's football world. It will make it much easier to cheer against him now. Once a hero, now a heaux.

"Upgraded" feels most accurate.

Ole miss does look like that right now. But that's the nature of being little brother. OU and USC are not bitter rivals. Therefore, the reason you say OM couldn't let lane coach after taking the LSU job does not apply to the Lincoln Riley scenario. The logic does not equate.

Until that changes you hamstring the schools in the hiring/firing process if you tried to put coach contact restrictions in as the calendar currently stands.
Have to fix problem 1 before moving to problem 2.

See my point now about why the calendar is the driver on this?

Hates a very strong word. No one hates Lane Kiffin, but they certainly have no respect for him. Football fans lacked any respect for your new coach long before he went to Ole Miss. NO one hates LSU. There fans love and support their team. What I have a hard time understanding, how can a state that is ranked towards the bottom in the USA, both on economy and education, afford $54,000,000 for a terminated coach’s contract buy out and then pay $98,000,000 for a new coach’s seven year contract, I addition to offering him NIL money. I believe every football fan across the USA is scratching their head on this one. However, LSU is free to do what they feel is right. I hope an LSU education does not skyrocket for both in-state and out-of-state students as well as the taxes for the Louisiana citizens.

Ultimately there is no scenario that Kiffin leaves and doesn’t get painted as the bad guy. Even if he left, never asked to coach the team, addressed the players and made an honorable statement about how he loved his time at Ole Miss, the internet is still marching with pitchforks and keyboards.
Ole Miss saying “no” makes total sense, they have to get ready for next year just like LSU does.
As far as how to fix it they basically have to fix the calendar. You can’t make a coaching hiring freeze time period in November/December because then basically any team that is going to fire their HC is absolutely screwed come ESD and January transfer portal.
“Hey, come play for us, the guy that has been recruiting you is out, and we have no idea who is gonna replace him until after you sign with us”

LSU has a few you could have.

Lane wanted to finish what he started this year with these players.
Ole Miss would not allow that so he took the LSU job.
Why is everyone hating on Lane?
If Lane wanted to finish the season with his team, he would have remained their coach. He chose to leave. Ole Miss did what any employer or self-respecting person would do. If you don't want to be here, then go.
Isn't this how Lane leaves every job, with a lot drama?
He's a good coach, but he'll likely leave LSU the same way.

It’s $54M over 6 or 7 years. With offset for other employment. So it will likely end up being south of $40M and might end up being south of $30M over those years.
The $98M is an increase of <$4M versus what they were paying Kelly.
So, it’s an increased costs of probably less than $10M/annually on what is now around $100M in annual football revenue.
That’s on the edge of what is fiscally smart. But it’s far from impossible. It will likely cost the other sports programs at LSU.

well.. it also signing day this week. You can't let Kiff be signing ole miss class while also trying to steal those recruits to sign with LSU.. rip the band-aid, get him out of their, and let Sleepy Pete do his thing...

Once he threatened to take the entire offensive staff, raid our roster and recruits unless he was allowed to coach the playoffs.
What makes you think that actually happened. Lane said he didnt put any “now or never” pressure on staff. And since OM said leave now wouldn’t you expect Lane to contact unsigned recruits??
