This may shock you, but I do believe LSU is a top tier football school, you just don't have the prestige that Bama has, and that does mean something to recruits. I think he would of been pretty successful if he stayed, just not at the level he is at now, it's historic. This is just my opinion, not trolling, you can disagree, but won't matter to me.

'm not sure. He was losing a couple games each year that he shouldn't and the LSU faithful were getting restless. Only when he left, did everyone realize we still wanted him, but it was too late.

I don’t think it’s a stretch to say he’d go back to back in 06-07 if he’d stayed.

After that it’s anyone’s guess

That would be a wild hypothetical to try to trace all the conference HC hiring implications, winning implications, etc. that would stem from Saban remaining at LSU until present day.

Probly even more so since he started earlier at LSU. The 05 and 06 teams were some of the most talented college football teams ever. Overall #1,3,5,6 NFL Draft picks plus 3 other first rounders, a future HOF tackle and a 2x all pro Dlineman among others. From there hedve only gotten stronger at LSU. You’re looking at, moderately speaking, 6 Nattys by now and possibly another.

LSU fans were never restless with Saban. Maybe weary after the UAB loss but the next year he won the SEC. Two years after that he won the NC. Oh were they restless in 04 a year after he brought LSU their first title in 50 years?

For sure

Those 2005-2007 teams were loaded.

He could easily have won 1-2 there.

No drop off in recruiting, and he would have kept evolving unlike Les. Tons of talent in state. After his 2-3 NC he could recruit anywhere.

No reason to think he wouldn’t have kept winning at LSU. He’s 100x the coach Les is and Les won a NC and played for another.

Plus he wouldn’t be at Alabama taking top end Louisiana recruits and whooping our arse all the time.

Best thing that ever happened to Saban was taking a college leave and trying the NFL. He realized he was a college guy and re-dedicated himself. He basically admitted he was distracted in 2004 after the 2003 NC.

There have been several surveys of football recruits and the most interesting thing I've found is that most of them only care what the program has done in the last 5 years or so.

There are plenty of historically prestigious programs that aren't recruiting that well these days.

But what if Saban never leaves LSU and continues his career there, and Alabama wanders the wilderness while he continues to feed the beast?

what if blah fricking blah.

The point is the Saban is the best CFB coach and he decided something wasn't good enough for him at LSU, so there must be some kind of shite there that keeps LSU from being that good, not just hiring the right coach.

This argument is folly since if you track the number of NFL players LSU and Bama have put out since going to Tuscaloosa it’s very close. Now if you take Saban and put him back at LSU that number increases for the Tigers. So no prestige isn’t the decider.

Ummm most people well actually 99% of coaches jump to NFL if given the chance. That is why he left LSU.

Yes Saban could/would have had the same success at LSU that he is having at Bama.

He is the reason Bama is what they have been the last 13 or so years. Imagine if he stays at LSU during those years of the NFL. He might actually have more championships than he already does

Take a chill pill, Nancy.

How dare college football fans discuss hypotheticals and what ifs in the middle of buttfrick July.

Could he? Yes.

Would he have been as successful? Probably not. What Saban has done at Alabama is simply unparalleled and the likelihood of Saban being as successful at LSU isn't high. That's not because LSU is an inferior program or anything, it just takes a lot of luck to be where Saban currently is.

Also, you are aware that LSU has 3 National Titles in a span of ~16 years? I don't think there's any problem in the "being good" department

I am thinking he would have at least matched what he did at Bama. Les won one NC off his recruits and should have won a second. Nick would have really taken advantage of TX because both those programs were fricked up at that point. Nick's biggest issue was the draw of the NFL, if not for that he would have retired a few more coaches in the SEC.
