I think basketball is easier because of smaller venues. It's different filling up 18,000 arena versus 80000 stadium

Only wealthier fans go. I don't know prices for NCAA but I can't imagine being 450 or more for cheapest ticket.

Plus, I guessing venues are easier to get to.

But they aren't worried about ticket sales, it will always be a sellout thanks to ticket brokers..TV controls everything. As long as there's someone willing to write the check, it won't change.

They need to move the first round to a home game for the higher seed.

that still wouldn't help the fans. you'd have several fan bases buying up flights and tickets to the title game way in advance and then forced to sell right before the game if their team doesn't make it. you'd inevitably end up with a super bowl type situation where a game is played in front a bunch of people with no ties to either team. college football is going to end up just like the NFL post season before this is over. the NCAA's only concern is maximizing TV revenue, and that will do it. although i believe rating this year were down by a huge amount from last year, but i think that was largely due to their idiotic decision to have the first round on NYE

it's also different because the first two rounds usually aren't sellouts most places either and you don't have many fans at all (except maybe kentucky ) traveling to all these game sites. and at least each site has two rounds of games as well

You're probably right. Most of the money is generated by TV revenue ( I'm guessing), so eventually the first round playoff game will look like the Silvercraft Lenseed Oil Bowl between North Dakota and South Idaho State.

But I like the home game first round idea, and will claim it like Larry Culpepper, the Dr. Pepper guy.

The 2 game system is ridiculously more costly than just a single game.

In addition to TWO trips, the trip to the championship game is now only a week's notice.

Airfare can be almost TWICE what it is when you book 1 week vs 1 month.

It's about 2K per person to go to championship game in Arizona.

It was probably 1-1.5 to go to the Cotton Bowl.

The number of fans who can pay 3-4K to do both games is very low.

A neutral site game with only a week's notice is the biggest problem.

Neutral site games need more notice for the fanbases to prepare.

For the SEC outside of UK most don't go. Usually Basketball is cheaper and flights aren't as high because its not during the holiday season. Only business people are traveling in March

all those people talking 8 team play off - the cost to the average fan is something else
you play the first game in miami , the second game on the west coast , the final game in indy!

I've always thought it was pretty ridiculous to have to go to two neutral site games in that short of a time period. You'd have to spend a fortune going to both

I agree 100%. The top 2 seeds should get home field.

Booked plane tickets and hotel way in advance.

Nashville to Phoenix was around 300 round trip after sec championship game.

Hotel in Scottsdale was around 160/night

450 each face value on tickets was the mistake. Should not have bought them from the ticket office. But figuring out ticket prices is such a gamble. Prices to the Miami game were outrageous. I could have got triple to quadruple face value, north over 1k or lowers that year

I don't even bother with semifinal games. Both years before the game you could get tickets for under face value.

Book these things farther in advance and you could save money. That process is not possible, however, with the current CFP schedule.

The tickets are high no doubt but Alabama fans will travel in big numbers, fear not. The economy does suck worse than we are told but it won't hurt the tide faithful showing up. Bring home a title!
