Not that I disagree but a power program in my book must have at least one national title in an era.

Hence the 6 before one comment

No doubt USCe is a power today for sure

meh, that's a perception issue. I think going to the CWS, 5 times in 11 years ('74-85) would be a strong arguement for a power program. It's essentially like making the Elite 8 five times and we even made the National Championship series twice during that period in '74 and '77.

So going back to your original point that you didn't think we were a power before LSU...yeah, we had atleast played for the National Championship twice and been to the CWS 5 times, before LSU made the CWS. Congrats on the 6 championships though, that's awesome.

Come on now, the day Skip Bertman showed up at LSU things turned around. I was not disagreeing with LSU and USCe both being modern day power houses. When I think of the 70's and 80's USCw and Texas come to mind

1997.
And I think we only had 188 dingers. had a HR in every game. Both records that will never be touched again with the bats we have now

I think in 97 they hit 188. Brandon Larson alone had 40.

I already said LSU began to be a power in the 90s...

granted we lacked the NCs until 2010, but to say we weren't a power before 2010 is fricking retarded.

like CIYE said, we consistently made it to the CWS in the 70s and 80s with chances at the NC BEFORE LSU had even been there.

so if your only measure of power programs is by NCs, what do you think of this?

quote:

In the 10 years from 2000–2009, South Carolina posted an impressive 468-201 overall record (179-120 SEC). The 468 overall wins ranked fourth in Division I College Baseball (first among SEC programs), and the 179 SEC victories led the conference for the decade. The Gamecocks made the NCAA Tournament every season, advancing to seven Super Regionals and three College World Series (first CWS berths since 1985). In addition, South Carolina won 40 or more games each season and hit the 50-win mark on three occasions (2000, 2002, 2004).

quote:

In the five seasons from 2000 to 2004, South Carolina won more games than any other Division I College Baseball program in the nation (260-87 record). This stretch included five Super Regionals, three College World Series berths, three 50-win seasons, a 99-50 SEC record, three SEC championships (2 season and 1 tournament), and three SEC East titles.

Skip came to LSU in the late 80's for starters. And congrats. Not trying to argue, I will take our 6 NC and bow out

More like the mid 80's, but it's all good. This thread was actually pretty nice till the bullshite started.

Either way, LSU, MSU, and USC are the big 3.

FLA, Arky, Vandy, and UGA (wtf has happened) are the 2nd tier.

And then there is Ole Miss......

yeah I'm done, but let it be noted it was LSUNV who started it by discounting us being a good program until we had a NC.

it's all good, LSU has 6, we have 2.

Big 2

Y'all were legit before the past few years. Y'all just had bad luck in tourneys. SOLID #2. But nobody touches lsu baseball as a whole.

Do you agree that Alabama and lsu are equals in football? Bc lsu has won more games since 2000, no?

In SEC baseball, there's the big 2. Everyone else is on another tier. Some teams have good years. Only 2 are consistent with it.

I never stated that you weren't good, I just simply stated that it wasn't long like the OP I responded to. That is where I took exception

A&M and Florida had no business being in the NCAA Tournament. Mediocre at best regular seasons.

I think we SC fans just take exception because you seemed to imply that SC has only become a power now, as if we're new to the scene of elite college baseball when that isn't the case. I know I know I hate what ifs as much as the next guy but what if 2 games in our entire history went differently. What if we had won the games in '74 and '77. Is your entire perception of our history completely changed based off of 2 games? Albeit the 2 most important ones up to that point.

Again the point is SC has a lot of history. Hell Ray Tanner retired as only our 2nd winningest head coach for God's sake.
