I don't find it ridiculous.

I'm not going to argue with you, because it is not the time or place (which is exactly my original point).

I am terribly sorry to hear about his death. I was just pointing out an observation that a chip will be on the Bama players shoulder in this upcoming season, that's all.

It's not like I badmouthed him or anything.

Like I said, this comes as no real surprise to anyone who knew anything about what was going on in his life in Maryville/Knoxville.

"Tractor" Traylor just passed away from a heart condition. Douglas was a huge guy and may have had one as well...just because he made a few errors in his life, don't assume that they played a hand in his death. Let the full report come out before you say anything is "no real surprise".

Something to consider.

That's pushing it. I just made a statement how his death would RESULT IN SOMETHING POSITIVE.

He was having some serious, serious problems long before he enrolled at Alabama.

I'm inclined to agree based on what I've heard. Still a shame though. It's awful no one could help this guy. I guess there is only so much people can do.

nothing confirmed.. but a guy that confirmed it with his dad before it really broke today said he went to a party last night and didn't wake up.

Like I said, nothing confirmed. Not trying to start any rumors.

that seems to fit in with what the other Tenn. guy was saying who said Douglas was hanging out with one of his good friends.

Such a shame.

I heard from the brother of my friend that he was staying with, that he called a cab and left the house after my friend went to bed and went to a girl's house they had met earlier.
My friend woke up in the morning and didn't know where he was, called the cab company and got the address and drove over and found police everywhere.
I heard it was an overdose and since I know A Doug had some problems even in high school with it then that's what I believe it was. So sad, our whole community in Maryville is just too shocked to do much right now.

Police report on death of Alabama football player Aaron Douglas

Posted: May 12, 2011 4:07 PM CDT Updated: May 12, 2011 4:07 PM CDT

Statement from Fernandina Beach Police Department regarding the death of Alabama football player Aaron Douglas:

The Fernandina Beach Police Department is currently working a death investigation at 2570 First Avenue.

At 8:13 AM the Fernandina Beach Police Department responded to the report of a deceased male. The victim has now been identified as 21 year old, David Aaron Douglas of Maryville, Tenn. The national media has been reporting that Douglas was a student at the University of Alabama and was a member of the football team. Our agency is referring any questions related to the University to the University of Alabama.

According to witness accounts, the victim reportedly left his friends last night after dinner to go by taxi cab to Jacksonville. While enroute he was apparently contacted by two local women and invited to a party at the First Avenue address. He arrived at the party by cab at approximately 11:00 PM – 11:30 PM and was seen at the residence as late as 2:00 AM.

When the male resident and others woke this morning they found the victim on the second floor balcony apparently deceased. The police and EMS were called and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

This investigation is being conducted with all due care. The house and grounds were secured and processed for physical evidence. Cause of death is pending determination by the Medical Examiner's Office.

The Fernandina Beach Police Department is also investigating the possibility of illegal alcohol consumption by some at the party. The police department has a very proactive policy regarding enforcement of alcohol and narcotics laws, and encourages citizens to call the police department to report house parties of this type. Because these incidents can sometimes result in a variety of negative outcomes, such as violent fights, sexual assault, domestic violence, DUI related traffic crashes, multi-drug toxicity deaths, and vandalism and littering, it is entirely appropriate for police officers to monitor the activity and confirm that no laws are being broken.

Hard to say what’s sadder, the half-assed apology or the fact that someone thought it was a good idea to post that tripe in the first place.

I'm pretty confident that's about what happened. Since it was a party, it might be alcohol poisoning. I'm still getting texts from my friends who played football with him, and they're hearing the same thing. I saw him at a Christmas party this winter...so sad.

I just got in and this is the first thing I read. Very sad. Any mention of how it happened? I haven't read the whole thread.
