Ultimately, the crowd surged towards the stage, crushing many people.
In addition to the nine deaths, scores of people were seriously injured.
The litigation from this event will be in the $millions.

Was this like The Who concert in the 70's?

I thought they had created laws after The Who tragedy to insure it did not happen again.

Seems after The Who tragedy concerts immediately did away with general admission, but over the past 2-3 years have noticed several bigger concerts at FedEx, etc, having a pit area of standing GA at the front and assigned seats behind them. Probably not dangerous if they only have 5-7 rows of people standing, but apparently some concerts/festivals have gone back to the whole floor being general admission.

Back in 1995 Nine Inch Nails had a concert at the Carolina Coliseum ( I worked there at the time) in which the entire floor was set up as a no chair Mosh pit. No one was injured but it got hairy several times. Never allowed another set up like that again.

What he really needs is to be condemned as fairly useless and then discarded by a culture that celebrates and honor people of substance

Not to the exclusion of criminal charges if he's culpable, of course

It was similar to The Who and the Hillsborough soccer stampede (around 100 killed there). The difference is that in those two cases, the crush was people trying to get into the venue instead of a crush inside the event. In the case of The Who, the concert never stopped. The band had no idea what had happened because everything inside the arena was just fine.

Some places have banned general admission/standing room only tickets or limited the number based on floor space but not everywhere. Even when they're limited, if the crowd gets out of hand in an enclosed place there's always a chance something like this could happen.

Being that I'm a 54 year old white dude, I've got no idea who this performer is or what his shows are like but it's really important to let the investigation run it's course before making blanket statements about what happened. Several people got killed at an AC/DC concert back in the 1990s in very similar circumstances. They too played on for some time before stopping simply because they didn't know how serious the situation had become.

For those that wonder why your program gets fined for rushing the field - this is why. A bunch of football fans rushing against a wall or fence can trigger the same outcome. Also, after this expect the next field rushers to get a lot stronger punishment than $250k.

They also have video of a couple of people pleading with the stage security or crew to stop the show.

People can definitely still be hurt rushing the field in American football but it’s exceptionally rare and nowhere near the level of what happened during the Liverpool soccer tragedy. The problem there was that you could not get out of the cages erected and people died because of it. Had they been able to access the field far fewer people would have died.

The crowd tried its best to lower people out of the stands and onto the field to avoid the death crush but almost everywhere was caged. Rushing the field would have saved lives had it been an option.

Prayers. Also ask for prayers for the Ole Miss senior who also died at the concert. Beautiful blonde girl. So sad.

I didn't mean to imply that you could see something similar to the soccer crush. I agree that's not really possible the way our stadiums are set up.

People can, though get seriously injured and killed when pinned or trampled by people rushing the field. It is, as you said, very rare but so are people getting trampled at music concerts and yet here we are.

Why in world would anyone downvote my post about about the OM girl? She has a family that is grieving also. Everyone needs grace and prayers here. So sad for the Aggie student and their family of course as I said. It’s not about our damn football teams.

Apparently the concert continued for almost 40 minutes after security saw that there was a major problem. Why on earth didn’t they just shut down the power to the stage? Horrible for those people and their families.
