Concerning stats regarding FSU as it relates to expansion

I have long been a supporter of adding FSU but the below facts concern me. I get that their tv ratings are overall good, but is FSU just a more rural version of Miami with the same fickle bandwagon fans? Are we locking down any portion of the Florida market we don’t already have?
LINK Tomahawk Nation
Doak Campbell is currently under renovation to reduce capacity to 65-70,000 in 2025.
FSU only sold out one home game during the 2013 national title season (top 10 Miami) and has consistently failed to fill an 80,000 seat stadium the last 15 years.
Only 1.9 million Florida residents, or 8% of the state’s population, live within 150 miles of Tallahassee as of 2023. No major metro area or tv market is within 150 miles. FSU and Nebraska are the only major programs with so few residents living nearby.
Conversely, over 11 million Florida residents, including the entire metro areas of Jacksonville, Tampa, and Orlando, are within 150 miles of Gainesville.
Approximately half of FSU’s 12,500 in state boosters live in the Tallahassee area with a relatively small presence in the more populated central and south Florida areas.

So, FSU needs to merge with Central Florida.

All the other things you mentioned may be true, but this is an absolute no. There’s no comparison when it comes to FSU and Miami's fanbases. FSU has a massive fanbase, and aren’t anywhere close to the level of fair weather fans of the U.

I think this will be a common thing in the next decade. Most will pick watching in HD over paying ever-increasing ticket prices to watch in person. And GenZ doesn't care about sports.

The downsizing alone doesn’t concern me. It’s the isolation from large populations causing the downsizing that does. It’s one thing to go from 105k to 90k. 65k is a really small SEC stadium. It’s almost like they are going small in fear that Alabama, UGA, or Ohio St fans are going to take over 30,000 seats if they stay large and join a big boy conference. Thats a uniquely FSU problem no other program of its caliber has outside of Miami.

No one is as fickle as Miami, but this article is making me question if FSU has the fan base and reach they claim to have. I do think a rising tide like joining the SEC would lift FSU fan interest as well, but we need FSU to prove their value to us.

I'm sure that's the main reason teams are cutting down on capacity. I know I make all my life decisions based on the traveling fans of those three schools.

I don't think FSU has any place in the SEC. I'm fine with leaving it as is. I rather Georgia Tech comeback to the SEC than FSU.

Gee, I wonder why an LSU fan doesn't want FSU in the SEC.

The desire in Tallahassee is to join a national conference. Not a regional one. Thanks, but no thanks. Again.

Too funny. The admin at fsu would crawl through broken glass and suck off every SEC exec committee member for an invitation to the SEC on a 60 second notice.

Just like their applicants, I think it’s safe for the SEC to consider them a safety school.

Oh look another poster scared FSU will dominate the SEC if added.

So what you're saying is that FSU is just another Miami? They both picked the ACC as independents and they should be willing to live with the results.

And still damn near outdrew the lsu fans the past 2 years smh

Last I checked, the ACC is a national conference with Cal and Stanford and SMU. Why do you all want to leave?

Every game fsu played last year was a Nielson rated game and they averaged 4.16 million viewers good for 9th in the country, Tenn(3rd highest sec, sixth nationally) had an average of 4.57 million viewers in 7 games. If you understand how Nielsen ratings work and the difference of acc/sec schedule you’d understand that article really means nothing.

You guys can't even fill your cereal bowl of a stadium. Did you read that article? Who the frick wants to spend $4000 to go sit in that weirdly oriented stadium in the middle of fricking nowhere? One sellout in an entire decade? ONE SELLOUT IN 77 GAMES?! Florida has had 11 sellouts just in the last two years alone and our team has been total dogshit. We have 7 schools already within 500 miles of Gainesville. FSU will literally bring nothing to the SEC.
