Wasn’t white knighting to begin with. Just trying to figure out how he/she was wrong.

I will keep an eye on you and offer an assist when I see you flailing with this time being an exception.

Nobody was wrong, the person who mentioned the AFL was only adding extra information which was interesting I thought.

The Heisman was more of a career achievement award for many years. The first player younger than a junior to win it was Tebow in 2007. Herschel damn sure should have won it twice and maybe 3 times.

Most of the time the #1 pick is a QB; it wasn't until recently that QB was a position where Alabama was producing All-Americans and Heisman winners.

Also keep in mind that the top 2 programs in total NFL draft picks are Notre Dame and USC; there's some old-school region bias that held back southern schools for a while.

It is weird that we have more Super Bowl MVP trophies than #1 picks. The only other schools that can say that are Michigan, thanks to Tom Brady; and Texas Tech, thanks to Patrick Mahomes.

Interestingly enough, NONE of the Super Bowl MVPs that are part of that trivia were #1 picks (Bart Starr, Joe Namath, Tom Brady, Desmond Howard, Patrick Mahomes).
Texas has 3, none of which are QB's. Try again..lulz

And none since 1982.

Quarterbacks make up 35 of the picks, the most of any position; the second most common position is running back, with 23 (though the last one taken at #1 was in 1995, well before Alabama's Heisman-winning running backs played).

Congrats on bucking the trend, I guess? Nothing about your statement refutes... well, anything really. Pretty weak, just like Texas.

I believe that UGA has the same number of Super Bowl MVP trophies as Bama (3).

This is breakdown of all the schools with 3 or more Super Bowl MVP winners (repeats included)::

quote:

Michigan - 6 (five for Tom Brady, one for Desmond Howard)

Alabama - 3 (two for Bart Starr, one for Joe Namath)

Georgia - 3 (one each for Jake Scott, Terrell Davis and Hines Ward)

Notre Dame - 3 (all for Joe Montana)

USC - 3 (one each for Lynn Swann, Marcus Allen and Malcolm Smith)

Texas Tech - 3 (all for Patrick Mahomes)

Hershel would have had UGA tied for 1st if he didn't go to the USFL instead of the NFL.

Guys do what they wanna do. Matt Leinart probably goes #1 if he went into the much weaker 2005 draft. Guy came off a Heisman (and all other relevant awards), perfect season and national title. And San Francisco picking at #1 is not gonna pass on a guy from down the road. Not that it would have been a good pick but it probably would have been the pick.

I mean hell what QBs from Bama were even drafted higher than like the fourth round between Kenny Stabler and Tua?

Maybe Brodie Croye might have been a third? Too lazy to look up.

Richard Todd?

Penn State had two mega busts in Courtney Brown and Ki-Jana Carter.

I remember both of those guys being beasts in college. I think Ki-Jana Carter got injured, which wrecked his pro career.

Re Courtney Brown, I'm trying to remember what exactly happened. I seem to recall there being a linebacker on the same Penn State team, who had more name recognition (and a far better pro career). But for some reason they wanted the D Lineman instead of him... was he the beneficiary of that linebacker in college?
edit to add= Lavar Arrington

Re Alabama #1 picks- for a good long time, a RB would be the #1, as well as the Heisman, instead of QBs. Bama didn't have great RBs during their runs, instead they were solid teams overall.

They should do most top-5 picks. There a many times the people picking 2,3,4 or 5 would not have taken the guy that went #1.
