I don’t really understand the conference consolidation when the expanded playoffs have more access

Marshall is the symptom of an epidemic that’s going to kill the sport.
Teams turning over that much of their roster, I mean seriously they can’t recruit enough players to fill all the holes. And they may not be done losing them.
They’re just the first team that happens to. They may not be the last one this year, much less going forward.

You could make a better argument that Cam Newton paved the way for the acceptance of the mercenary “student” athlete.
