The SEC has some variations in sports
- Alabama has women's rowing
- Kentucky has Rifle and Men's Soccer
- Tennessee has women's rowing but does not do gymnastics
- Auburn, Georgia, South Carolina and Texas A&M have equestrian
- Florida plays women's lacrosse
- Vanderbilt does not play volleyball or softball

See. That's why I was always confused. Because, of the huge wrestling that use to go on in Memphis, etc. I believe Jerry Lawler was/is from Memphis right? Just a head scratcher.

Actually ... I'd like to see the SEC take-up wrestling.
It's not going to happen anytime soon though.
Title IX is such a bitch ... literally.

I don't know about every area of the South, but wrestling is popular and widely done in a lot of parts. Football coaches love for their kids to wrestle.
A lot of kids who are good end up going to D2 programs or the Mid-Atlantic/Rust Belt schools, but most play football instead.

Wrasslin’ is what pays Jerry “The King” Lawler’s bills and what goes on in Memphis. The city couldn’t give a shite about wrestling

Me too. High school wrestling is still fairly popular in Alabama, but I bet a return of the sport locally at the college level would cause an explosion in popularity. It's not like swimming or hockey, where HS facilities are almost non-existent in the south.

Will you guys STFU already about Title IX being the reason you guys doing have wrestling. We don't have wrestling because very few people in the south care about it.
Purple Markers are D1 Wrestling Schools.

Missouri even did a study on wrestling and found it to be one of the cheapest NCAA sports to maintain.
The SEC also dwarfs other conference in terms of athletic revenue and yet a few of the SEC members are slacking when it comes to sports.
University of Alabama at Birmingham has 18 D1 sports
South Alabama gas 17 D1 sports
University of Alabama has 15 D1 sports
Auburn has 15 D1 sports
Whats the excuse for Auburn and Alabama?
The other power 5 conference members are averaging like 17-18 sports a school.

I wish we played more and have had the same thoughts as you - it seems like we have a whole lot of money and I don't understand why we can't add another sport or two. I'd love to see us play men's soccer and whatever the corresponding women's sport would be.
However, they did add Rowing just a couple years ago, so they aren't being completely stagnate.

The Mississippi schools don’t even have a damn swim team. What’s your problem?
Posted on 2/19/18 at 5:39 pm to Tiger_Claw
I'm surprised there are no other SEC teams. Congrats though. Nice ranking.
